Men’s Basketball falls to Baldwin Wallace

The Muskingum men's basketball team dropped a home OAC matchup to Baldwin Wallace, 72-65.

How it Happened

  • Out of the gate, the Yellow Jackets built a quick 9-4 lead early in the first half.
  • Despite trailing by as many as nine in the opening period, the Muskies stormed back to take a 40-34 lead into halftime. Freshman Mason Purvis buried a three-point shot at the buzzer to give the Muskies the six-point lead at the break.
  • Out of the break, the Muskies were able to gradually build their lead to 11 with 13 minutes left in the game.
  • However, using a 10-0 run, Baldwin Wallace quickly cut the Muskie lead back to one with 10 minutes remaining.
  • The Yellow Jackets eventually recaptured the lead at the 7:32 mark in the second half and never surrendered it again, securing their 72-65 victory.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies were led by senior Alex Masinelli with a game-high 21 points and four rebounds.
  • Freshman Zachary Chatmon added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Muskies, while Purvis chipped in a career-high-tying nine points.
  • Sophomore Bradley Russell added eight points, while freshman Zaveon Croff just missed the double-double with seven points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
  • Baldwin Wallace was led by Drew Wennes with 20 points.
  • On the night, Muskingum shot 25-of-61 (41%) from the field, while Baldwin Wallace went 25-of-62(40.3%).
  • The Muskies scored 36 points in the paint, compared to 28 for the Yellow Jackets.
  • Muskingum also won the rebounding battle 45-33 over Baldwin Wallace.
