Men's Basketball falls short to Wilmington

The Muskingum men's basketball team fell short to the Wilmington Quakers on Saturday night, 88-84. With the loss, Muskingum and Wilmington split the home/home series that saw the Muskies beat the Quakers on Friday night, 90-68.

Inside The Numbers

  • Junior Trey Singleton led the Muskies with a team-high 20 points off the bench and grabbed three rebounds.
  • Sophomore Tanner Gensler added a career-high 15 points while snatching four rebounds.
  • Junior Da'Ray Menefield chipped in 14 points on the night and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
  • As a team, the Muskies shot 28-of-56 (50.0%) from the field and went 6-of-19 (31.6%) from the three-point line.
  • Bilal Sow led the Quakers with 20 points off the bench and snatched six rebounds.
  • Jeffery Mansfield added 17 points for Wilmington and dished out a team-high six assists.
  • As a team, the Quakers shot 30-of-55 (54.5%) from the floor and went 9-of-21 (42.9%) from behind the arc.

Game Highlights

The Quakers started off with a strong 23-8 lead within the first eight minutes of the contest. Despite the Muskies chipping away at the Wilmington advantage, the Quakers hung onto their double-digit lead and took a 44-33 lead into the break.

Wilmington held onto their lead for the first few minutes of the second half until the 16-minute mark when the Muskies went on a 14-4 run to cut the deficit to two at 56-54 with 10 minutes remaining. Muskingum continued to battle back and took the lead with seven minutes remaining in the game at 66-64 off a three-pointer from Tanner Gensler. However, a Muskingum technical foul following Gensler's shot gave the Quakers two free throws and possession, which propelled Wilmington to a 7-0 run to regain the lead and fend off the Muskie comeback.
