Dempsey named CoSIDA Academic First Team All-District

Muskingum junior guard Marcus Dempsey has been named Division III Academic First Team All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The list recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom for NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, and NAIA.

Dempsey is a business management major at Muskingum. He currently ranks first in the Ohio Athletic Conference and second in the nation in scoring averaging 30.3 points per game, while ranking fifth in the OAC in assists with 3.9 assists per game. This season, Dempsey became Muskingum's all-time leading scorer passing Andy Moore (1988-92) who held the record with 1,871 career points. He later became Muskingum's first 2,000 point scorer in program history.

In January, Dempsey was recognized for his excellence in the classroom by being named the OAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month and was also named to the 2020 Bevo Francis Award Watch list by Small College Basketball (SBC).

First-Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot and the honorees will be announced in mid-March.
