Men's Basketball stumbles against Otterbein

The Muskingum men's basketball team stumbled against Otterbein in Ohio Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon, 88-68.

The Basics

 Inside The Numbers

  • Leading the Muskies was junior Marcus Dempsey with 25 points. He went 9-of-20 (.450) from the floor and 3-of-9 (.333) from the three-point line.
  • Sophomore MJ Smith added 10 points going 4-of-10 (.400) from the field. 
  • Freshman Tanner Gensler chipped in eight points off the bench shooting 3-of-5 (.600) from the floor.
  • Leading the Cardinals was Dallas Patrick with a game-high 30 points and grabbed eight rebounds. He went 12-of-21 (.571) from the floor and 3-of-5 (.600) from behind the arc.
  • Muskingum finished the day shooting 12-of-15 (.800) from the free-throw line.
  • Otterbein ended the game going 14-of-19 (.737) from the charity stripe.
  • The Cardinals finished outrebounding the Muskies, 42-31.

Game Highlights

The Cardinals started the game off going on a 14-0 run in the first five minutes of the first half. The Muskies were able to cut the lead to single digits after a slow start, 31-23, with 6:07 remaining until halftime. After the Muskies got within eight, the Cardinals went on an 18-2 run to make it a 45-25 lead with two minutes left in the first half. Muskingum trailed at the break, 45-30.

In the second half, Otterbein started off with the same momentum from the first frame going on a 12-4 run in the first six minutes of play. The Cardinals used the early spurt to take control of the contest en route to the win.

  • The Muskies next return home to take on #15 Marietta in OAC play on Wednesday, February 19. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Anne C. Steele Center.
