The Muskingum men's basketball team suffered a loss to #8 Marietta on Wednesday night, 95-73.

  • Junior Marcus Dempsey scored a game-high 28 points to increase his career point total to 1,714. He currently ranks third all-time in Muskingum scoring behind Gene Ford (1970-74) who scored 1,717 career points.

  • Dempsey led the Muskies with a game-high 28 points and dished out a team-high six assists. He shot 10-of-22 (.454) from field and 5-of-8 (.625) from the charity stripe.
  • Freshman Tanner Gensler added a career-best 12 points off the bench shooting 4-of-4 (100.0) from the floor and 3-of-3 (100.0) from beyond the arc.
  • Sophomore Trey Singleton chipped in 10 points going 4-for-14 (.286) from the field.
  • Leading the Pioneers was Tim Kreeger with 21 points going 10-of-15 (.667) from the floor.
  • Muskingum ended the game shooting 27-of-69 (.391) from the field and 12-of-41 (.293) from the three-point line.
  • Marietta finished the night going 37-of-71 (.521) from the floor and 12-of-30 (.400) from downtown.
  • The Pioneers ended the game out-rebounding the Muskies, 38-25.

Game Highlights

The Muskies started with a quick 9-2 spurt in the first four minutes of the game, which then the Pioneers battled back and tied the game, 17-17, with 11:00 remaining in the first half. Marietta would take their first lead of the game, 19-17, off a made jump shot from Caleb Hoyng with 10:30 left until halftime. The Poineers went on a 15-0 run to make the score 31-17 with 6:21 remaining and held on to their strong lead going into halftime, 45-31.

Marietta continued their first half momentum into the second half and saw them gain their biggest lead of the game so far, 65-43, with 12:30 remaining in the game. Their largest lead came near the end of the game with a score of 95-70.

  • The Muskies next travel to Ada to take on Ohio Northern in OAC action on Saturday, January 11. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
