Men's Basketball cruises past Capital

The Muskingum men's basketball team cruised past Capital in Ohio Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night, 79-61.

Notable

  • Junior Marcus Dempsey scored a game-high 33 points to raise his career total to 1,523 points. He currently ranks fifth all-time in scoring at Muskingum and is nine points away from moving into fourth place.

Inside The Numbers

  • Dempsey scored 33 points off 12-of-20 shooting and 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. He also added six rebounds and four assists.
  • Sophomore Trey Singleton added 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting while grabbing six rebounds.
  • Sophomore MJ Smith chipped in seven points and snatched three rebounds.
  • Cameron Caldwell led Capital with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting and added five rebounds.
  • Reed Bradfield added 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for the Crusaders.
  • The Muskies ended the night shooting 29-of-56 (.518) from the floor and went 8-of-20 from behind the arc.
  • Capital finished the game shooting 23-of-55 (.400) from the field and shot 6-of-15 from the three-point line.
  • The Crusaders finished the game with 14 total turnovers, while Muskingum only committed 10 for the game.

Game Highlights

The first half saw an even battle between the Muskies and Capital until before halftime when Muskingum went on an 18-1 run to end the first half with a 38-25 lead. Capital would battle back early in the second half chipping away at their deficit to 44-40 with 13 minutes remaining. After Capital's comeback, the Muskies began to build momentum and steadily increased their lead throughout the second half to a 21-point cushion (79-58) en route to the big road win.

  • The Muskies next play at home when they host John Carroll in OAC action on Saturday, December 14. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Anne C. Steele Center.
