Men's Basketball remains perfect at home

The Muskingum men's basketball team powered past Westminster, Pa., 81-66, Thursday evening to remain perfect at the Anne C. Steele Center.

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (7-2 overall), Westminster (6-4 overall)
  • Location: New Concord, Ohio - Anne C. Steele Center

First Half

  • The two teams exchanged points for several minutes before a three-pointer from senior Joshua Keyes gave Muskingum its largest lead of the half, 14-9.
  • The Titans responded with an 11-0 run to take the 20-14 advantage with 9:23 remaining.
  • The Muskies came roaring back as a jumper from sophomore Jalen Paige and a three-pointer by freshman Andrew Robinson gave Muskingum the 23-22 lead.
  • The Muskingum offense edged Westminster in the final five minutes to take the 34-32 halftime lead.
  • Freshman Marcus Dempsey led Muskingum in the first half with 10 points, shooting 4-for-8 (.500) from the field.
  • As a team, the Muskies shot 14-for-38 (.368) from the field and 5-for-21 (.238) from behind the arc.
  • Westminster was led by Jarret Vrabel with 10 points.
  • The Titans entered the break shooting 14-for-28 (.500) from the field and 2-for-7 (.286) from three-point land.

Second Half

  • Westminster continued to hang around in the second half as they knotted the score at 48-48 with 13:23 remaining.
  • With 12:48 to play in the contest, Marsh sparked a 6-0 run to give the Muskies the lead for good, 54-48.
  • Muskingum claimed its largest lead of the contest, 79-64, with 1:32 to play following a layup and free throw by Dempsey. 
  • Muskingum out scored Westminster, 47-34, in the second half en route to the victory.

Post Game

  • Marsh and Keyes finished with double-doubles to lead the Muskies. Marsh notched his first of the season netting 17 points and pulling down 13 rebounds, while Keyes claimed his fifth with 11 points and 11 boards. 
  • Dempsey tied a career-high 22 points, while Paige chipped in 15 points.
  • Muskingum shot 31-for-70 (.443) from the field.
  • The Titans saw three athletes finish in double figures.
  • Vrabel led the way with a team-high 17 points, while Jason Pilarski added 15 points and Deontay Scott chipped in 14 points.
  • Westminster shot 27-for-60 (.450) from the field.

  • The Muskies return to action Friday, December 30 when they take on Grove City at the Bluffton University Tournament. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
