Keyes' dominating performance leads Muskies against Case

Muskingum junior Joshua Keyes recorded one of the most dominating performances in Muskingum history with his career-high 36-point, 21-rebound night to lead the Muskies against Case Western on Wednesday in the Rec Center. However, the Spartans fended off Keyes' career night and escaped New Concord with a 106-101 overtime win.

Game Notes

  • Keyes ended the evening hitting 14-of-23 shots, which included a pair of three-pointers and a perfect 6-of-6 display at the free throw line. Keyes also added two blocks, two steals and one assist to his highlight-reel effort.
  • Freshman Jarrell Marsh scored 19 points and had four assists.
  • Freshman Jalen Paige added 12 points and three assists.
  • Sophomore Jacob Geller rounded out the Muskie double-digit scoring with 11 points and eight rebounds.
  • Muskingum ended the outing shooting .487 (37-of-76) from the field. The Muskies also hit 17-of-22 free throws and ended the contest with a 47-35 edge in rebounds.
  • Case Western was paced by having six players score in double figures.
  • David Black led the Spartans with 26 points.
  • Jimmy Holman, Eric Black and Javier Alvarez all had 15 points.
  • The Spartans ended the night shooting .488 (40-of-82) from the floor.

Inside The Numbers

  • Case Western hit nine three-point shots in the opening half en route to taking a 49-40 lead into the break
  • In the second half, the Muskies erased a six-point deficit (89-83) in the final two minutes to force the overtime session. 
  • The surge was highlighted by back-to back three-point shots from Paige and sophomore Rickey Wilson to tie the game at 89. 
  • Following a Spartan basket with 17 seconds to play to give Case Western a 91-89 lead, Keyes brought the Muskie crowd screaming to its feet with a clutch jumper with one second on the clock to send the game to overtime.
  • In overtime, Case hit 6-of-9 shots and used a 6-0 point off of turnovers advantage to seal the road win.
