Brown leads Muskingum past Waynesburg

Muskingum senior Dave Brown scored a game-high 26 points to help lead the Muskies past Waynesburg on Saturday afternoon, 80-79.

Brown connected on 6-of-9 three-point shots and made 8-of-10 from the free throw line to pace the Muskie attack.

Junior Logan Kimble added 16 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Cody Seiler had eight points and eight boards.

Senior Jarod Hood provided a spark off the bench with four points, three rebounds and two blocks.

Muskingum (4-4) ended the outing shooting .483 (28-of-58) from the field. The Muskies registered 20 assists and grabbed 38 rebounds.

Waynesburg (5-6) was led by Jason Propst's double-double with 14 rebounds and 12 points. BJ Durham had 21 points and Thomas Ellis added 19 points.

The Yellow Jackets shot .382 (26-of-68) from the floor.

Waynesburg opened the game with a 6-0 spurt to grab the early momentum. The Muskies rallied back and tied the game at 14-14 at the 13:45 mark. Muskingum then used a 13-2 run to take a 27-16 lead with 7:40 to play. The Muskies entered the break with a 42-38 lead.

In the second half, Muskingum looked in control with a 66-56 lead with 8:42 on the clock. However, Waynesburg took advantage of a pair of Muskie turnovers and Durham hit three three-point shots during the next three minutes to propel the Yellow Jackets to a 69-68 lead. The Muskies answered the Yellow Jacket challenge with an 8-0 run to grab a 76-69 lead with 2:38 to play. Waynesburg outscored the Muskies 10-4 down the stretch to set up a chance to stun the Muskies at the buzzer, but Jacob Fleegle's open 12-foot jumper at the horn rattled off the rim.

Muskingum next hosts Franciscan on Thursday, January 2. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
