Coach Ieuter bids farewell to Muskingum football after impactful six-year tenure

After leading the Muskingum football program through its most successful four-year stretch since the 1989-92 seasons, Head Coach Erik Ieuter will be leaving the Fighting Muskies to return home to Michigan.

During his six years at the helm, Coach Ieuter transformed Muskingum football, guiding the team to its best record since 2003 and achieving top-half finishes in the highly competitive Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Under his guidance, the program shattered numerous school records, including marks for total offense, receiving yards, passing yards, and first downs across single games, seasons, and careers. Muskingum has consistently ranked among the top teams in the OAC in key statistical categories, including first downs per game, total yards per game, and passing yards per game.

On the field, 35 Muskies earned All-OAC honors, with many recognized as OAC Players of the Week. Off the field, academic success flourished, with 44 student-athletes named to the Academic All-OAC team and the 3.0 GPA team board growing fivefold during his tenure.

Under Coach Ieuter's leadership, Muskingum student-athletes demonstrated remarkable commitment, with the senior class growing from seven in 2019 to 24 this past season. This achievement highlights three consecutive years of senior classes with 20 or more members.

"I want to thank President Sue Hasseler, former Athletic Director Steve Brockelbank, and Athletic Director Kari Winters for the incredible opportunity to serve as Muskingum's football coach," said Coach Ieuter. "It has been a dream come true to be part of this University, surrounded by people who truly bleed red and black. I'm deeply grateful to the coaching staff for their dedication and sacrifices in building this program. To the players, I'm humbled by your hard work and commitment to the University and the team. I'm proud of all we've accomplished and excited for the future of Muskie football."

"I want to thank Erik for the six-strong years that he has been leading our football program. During his tenure, he left his impact on many young men that have joined the Long Magenta Line and have competed for us on the gridiron," stated Director of Athletics Kari Winters. "Erik recruited many students to Muskingum and really committed his time and energy to his staff, student-athletes, and to this institution.  We wish him and his family well and look forward to following his career."

Edward Reny, Muskingum's offensive line/tight ends coach, run game coordinator, and strength & conditioning coordinator, will serve as interim head coach. A valued member of the coaching staff since 2020, Coach Reny brings a wealth of experience and dedication to this role.

Muskingum will launch a national search to find its next head football coach, building on the strong foundation that Coach Ieuter re-ignited over the last six seasons.
