Muskies soar past Comets

The Muskingum football team soared past Capital on Saturday afternoon, 51-20.

Notables

  • Sophomore wide receiver Davion Grant set the school record for receptions in a season following his seven-reception effort today. He now has 62 receptions, which beat the previous mark of 57 set in 2022 by Zuri Edmondson. Grant also holds the record for receiving yards in a season with 993.
  • Senior receiver Travanti Keitt is right behind Grant with 61 receptions. Keitt also ranks second all-time in career receptions with 142. Keitt also ranks seventh all-time for receiving yards in a season with 763.
  • Muskingum's 51 points was a season-high. Muskingum has scored 42 points or more in four games this season.
  • Muskingum did not punt the entire game.
  • This marks Muskingum's third five-win season in the last four seasons.
  • Muskingum recognized student-athletes at halftime for their academic and athletic accomplishments from the 2023-24 campaign.
  • Following the game, junior quarterback Garrett Gurney, junior running back Chandler Ross, and junior linebacker Martavious Johnson were named Wally's Pizza Players of the Game.

  • Gurney went 24-of-32 for 274 yards with five touchdowns.
  • Junior running back Chandler Ross rushed for 130 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries. He also added four receptions for 42 yards. 
  • Freshman running back Riley Woodie rushed for 39 yards and one score.
  • Keitt had eight receptions for 107 yards and one touchdown.
  • Grant had seven receptions for 76 yards and one score.
  • Senior receiver Travis Roberson had three grabs for 35 yards and one touchdown.

  • Sophomore linebacker Ekyri Williams added seven hits and one fumble recovery.
  • Senior defensive back Devin Roebuck returned a block extra-point attempt for two points late in the third quarter.

  • Capital's Ben Owens led the Comets, going 11-of-19 for 175 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.
  • Diamonte Salley and AJ Conti led the Capital defense with eight hits each.

How it Happened

  • Muskingum scored the opening 28 of the game to take a commanding 28-0 lead late in the second quarter.
  • The Muskies closed the game by outscoring the Comets 21-7 in the final quarter to cap off the 51-point outburst.
