Muskingum football Head Coach Erik Ieuter has announced the selection of the captains for the 2024 season. Senior linebacker Austin Willforth, senior linebacker JD Schmidt, senior defensive back Qwestin Litz, senior wide receiver Travis Roberson, and junior offensive lineman Foster Wertz will lead the Muskies this season.
Willforth was an All-OAC honorable mention selection last year and finished with 65 total tackles to help lock down the Muskies' defensive presence. Willforth recorded three tackles for loss while also snagging one interception and grabbing one fumble in his time on the field last season. This marks the third straight year for Willforth to be selected as a captain.
Roberson helped fuel the Muskie offense with 32 receptions for 412 total yards. Roberson averaged 12.9 yards per catch and found the end zone four times during last season. This is the second straight year that Roberson has been named a captain.
Litz played in all 10 games for the Muskies last season and was responsible for 50 total tackles and one interception.
Wertz played in all 10 games for Muskingum last season. He was a large part of a solid offensive line that helped the Muskies average 365.7 yards per game.
Schmidt is a letterwinner and has been a key program member for three years.
The Muskies open their season on Saturday, September 7, when they travel to take on Mt. St. Joseph for a non-conference matchup. The season-opening game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Schueler Field in Cincinnati, Ohio. Make sure to follow the action live at fightingmuskies.com.
