Six Muskies earn Football All-OAC accolades

The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced that six Muskingum football players were named All-OAC honorees following their outstanding 2022 season. Headlining the honorees are senior quarterback Jordan Garrett and senior wide receiver Zuri Edmondson who were both named All-OAC First Team for offense.

Senior quarterback Jordan Garrett picked up All-OAC Offensive First Team honors after a season that saw him break Muskingum's program record for all-time passing yards with 5,753. This is the third time Garrett has received an All-OAC honor, and the first time he has been named to the First Team. Garrett, a two-time captain for the Muskies, started all 10 games under center and also set the program record for most passing touchdowns in a season with 21, breaking his own mark of 20 set during the 2021 season. Garrett was named the OAC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season, and he has earned that honor five times in his career.

Senior wide receiver Zuri Edmondson was also named All-OAC Offensive First Team after posting eight touchdown receptions this season. Edmondson, one of Muskingum's four captains, ranked second in the OAC in touchdown grabs, and also registered 822 receiving yards on 55 receptions this season. Edmondson's 822 receiving yards ranks third all-time in program history for a single season, and he also ranks fifth in receiving yards for a career with 1,711. Edmondson ranked second in the conference in receiving yards per game with 82.2, and he finished the year averaging 14.9 yards per reception. This honor marks Edmondson's second straight All-OAC nomination after being named an Honorable Mention last season.

Sophomore linebacker Austin Willforth was named All-OAC Defensive Second Team after tallying a team-high 103 total tackles this season. This is Willforth's first All-OAC honor. Willforth, a captain for Muskingum, finished second in the OAC and 22nd in Division III for total tackles, and he also ranked third in the conference in tackles per game with 10.3. Willforth also lead the Muskies with 9.5 tackles for loss for 24 yards and he was tied for the lead in sacks with 2.5.Against Ohio Northern, Willforth tallied career-highs in tackles with 15, tackles for loss with 2.5, and sacks with 1.5. Willforth's stellar performance against the Polar Bears earned him All-OAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Senior wide receiver Ja'Lin Goodman picked up All-OAC Second Team honors on Special Teams for his role as a kick returner. Goodman returned 22 kickoffs this season for 434 yards, a 19.7 yard per return average. Goodman also tallied an 85-yard kick return for a touchdown during Muskingum's week four matchup with Heidelberg. The kick return for a touchdown earned Goodman OAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Goodman also made an impact as a receiver for the Muskies this season. Goodman registered 435 receiving yards on 35 grabs and seven touchdowns for Muskingum. Goodman averaged 12.4 yards per catch, and he finished tied for third in the conference in touchdown receptions. This is Goodman's first All-OAC honor.

Junior offensive lineman Kamari Hill picked up All-OAC Honorable Mention accolades following a season where he anchored Muskingum's offense in the trenches. Hill helped guide Muskingum to averages of 311.1 yards per game, 91.7 rushing yards per game, and 23.8 points per contest. This is Hill's first All-OAC honor.

Freshman defensive back Antwan Murphy also picked up All-OAC Honorable Mention accolades after playing a big role in Muskingum's secondary this season. Murphy tallied 52 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and one interception on the year. Murphy averaged 5.2 tackles per game this season. This is Murphy's first All-OAC honor.

Muskingum is capping off a season that saw them go 5-5 for the second straight year. This marks the first time Muskingum has had back-to-back five-win campaigns since the 1995 and 1996 seasons.
