Football announces postseason Team Awards

Muskingum Football Head Coach Erik Ieuter has announced 13 postseason awards that were presented to 10 student-athletes on the team. Team members voted on the awards.

Senior quarterback Jordan Garrett was named the team's Most Valuable Player after a season that saw him break Muskingum's program record for all-time passing yards with 5,753. This is the second season in a row Garrett has earned the team MVP award. Garrett, a two-time captain for the Muskies, started all 10 games under center and also set the program record for most passing touchdowns in a season with 21, breaking his own mark of 20 set during the 2021 season. Garrett was named the OAC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season, and he has earned that honor five times in his career.

Senior wide receiver Zuri Edmondson was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year and the Offensive Back of the Year after posting eight touchdown receptions. Edmondson, one of Muskingum's four captains this season, ranked second in the OAC in touchdown grabs, and also registered 822 receiving yards on 55 receptions this season. Edmondson's 822 receiving yards ranks third all-time in program history for a single season, and he also ranks fifth in receiving yards for a career with 1,711. Edmondson ranked second in the conference in receiving yards per game with 82.2, and he finished the year averaging 14.9 yards per reception.

Senior offensive lineman Josiah Leasure was honored with the Offensive Lineman of the Year award after starting all 10 games at center for the Muskies this season. Leasure helped anchor an offensive line positioned Muskingum to average 311.1 yards per game, 91.7 rushing yards per game, and 23.8 points per game.

Sophomore linebacker Austin Willforth was honored with the team's Defensive Player of the Year award after tallying a team-high 103 total tackles. Willforth, a captain for Muskingum, finished second in the OAC and 22nd in Division III for total tackles, and he also ranked third in the conference in tackles per game with 10.3. Willforth also lead the Muskies with 9.5 tackles for loss for 24 yards and he was tied for the lead in sacks with 2.5.

Sophomore defensive lineman Toleo Malone was named Defensive Lineman of the Year and he was also honored with the Iron Man Award after he posting career-best marks in total tackles (33), sacks (2.5), and tackles for loss (4.5) this season. Malone also helped anchor a Muskie defense that limited opponents to 28.8 points per contest. 

Freshman defensive back Antwan Murphy picked up the Defensive Back of the Year award for his stellar play in Muskingum's secondary. Murphy logged 52 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss for 15 yards, one sack for eight yards, and one interception. Murphy averaged 5.2 tackles per game this season.

Junior kicker Collin Scozzafava was recognized as the Special Teams Player of the Year for the second straight season after tallying 1,666 yards on 44 punts. Scozzafava averaged 37.9 yards per punt, and he also downed seven kicks inside the 20-yard line. Scozzafava's long punt this season was 60 yards.

Muskingum's Freshman of the Year award was given to linebacker Jeremiah Livingston after he posted 64 tackles this season. Livingston recorded four tackles for loss for 19 yards, and he also registered two sacks for 14 yards. Livingston finished with one interception and one fumble recovery this season as well.

The team's Muskie Award and Offensive Scout Player of the Year award was given to senior offensive lineman Kevin McIntire.

Junior defensive back Jalyn Law was honored with the Defensive Scout Player of the Year award.
