Football set for OAC clash with Wilmington

The Muskingum football team travels to OAC-foe Wilmington on Saturday, November 5. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. from Wilmington, Ohio.

  • Last week against John Carroll, senior quarterback Jordan Garrett set the Muskingum program record for most passing yards in a career. Garrett now has 5,306 passing yards for his career.

The Series

  • Saturday's contest will mark the 27th meeting between Muskingum and Wilmington. The first game took place in 1913, and the Muskies hold an 18-8 edge in the all-time series. Muskingum has won 12 straight games over Wilmington as well.
  • Last season, Muskingum defeated the Quakers 62-14 which marked the most points scored by the Muskies in one game since the 1960 season.
  • In 2013, Muskingum became the 41st school in NCAA Division III history to achieve 500 program wins with its thrilling 35-28 overtime win at Wilmington. The Muskies rallied from a 21-point second-half deficit to spoil the Quakers' Homecoming en route to the milestone victory. The Muskies' memorable comeback was highlighted with a second-half surge that saw Muskingum outscore Wilmington 28-7 to force the extra frame. 

The Matchup

The Muskies enter the contest 4-4 overall and 3-4 in the OAC after slipping versus OAC-foe John Carroll last Saturday. Against the Blue Streaks, Muskingum totaled 280 yards to total offense including 242 passing yards and 38 rushing yards.

This season, Muskingum is averaging 314.6 yards per game. The Muskies average 218.4 passing yards per game and 96.3 rushing yards per game, and Muskingum scores 23.5 points per contest. Muskingum allows 384.3 yards per game and 29.6 points per contest.

The Muskies are led by senior quarterback Jordan Garrett whose Muskingum's all-time leader in career passing yards. Garrett has 1,646 yards through the air this season, and he's completed 143-of-227 (63%) of his passes this year. Garrett has tossed 17 touchdowns this year which ranks third in the conference, and he's also added two rushing scores as well. Garrett averages 205.8 passing yards per game which ranks fourth in the OAC, and he averages 7.3 yards per attempt.

Muskingum's receiving corps is led by senior wideout Zuri Edmondson with 41 catches for 617 yards. Edmondson has seven touchdown receptions this year which puts him second in the conference, and his 77.1 receiving yards per game average is third most in the OAC. Earlier this season, Garrett connected with Edmondson for a 90-yard touchdown pass which set the school record for the longest receiving touchdown in school history. Edmondson also averages 15 yards per catch this season as well. Senior wide receiver Ja'Lin Goodman has also had a solid season with 27 receptions for 330 yards and four touchdowns to help lead the Muskies. Goodman averages 12.2 yards per catch this season, and he was also named the OAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his duties as a kick returner. Junior receiver Travis Roberson has 26 snags for 352 yards and three touchdowns for the Muskies, and junior wideout Travanti Keitt has 23 catches for 211 yards and two scores. Senior running back Donny Wilkinson has one touchdown reception out of the backfield for Muskingum, while sophomore tight end Marcus Paul also has one touchdown reception.

Muskingum's rushing attack is led by senior running back Donny Wilkinson 294 yards on 103 totes. Wilkinson averages 36.8 yards per game and 2.9 yards per carry this season. Also playing running the ball strong is freshman halfback Noah Wellmeier. In six games, Wellmeier has 231 yards on 70 carries and two touchdowns for the Muskies.

On defense, the Muskies are led by sophomore linebacker Austin Willforth with 83 total tackles on the year. Willforth is third in the OAC with 10.4 tackles per game, and he sits at 24th in the country with his 83 total stops. Willforth has seven tackles for loss this season, and he's also recorded 1.5 sacks as well. Freshman linebacker Jeremiah Livingston has 53 total tackles on the year, including four tackles for loss, two sacks, and one interception; while senior linebacker Tristan Howell has totaled 50 tackles and one interception this season. Freshman Antwan Murphy has 41 tackles and one interception for Muskingum, while junior Devin Roebuck also has one pick this year. Freshman linebacker Garrett Gurney and freshman defensive lineman Onye Nwosisi both have one forced fumble.

On special teams, the Muskies are led by freshman kicker Aaron Meyers who has two made field goals on the year. Meyers' long was from 36 yards out, and he's also 15-for-15 on extra points. Junior kicker Collin Scozzafava has 36 punts on the year for 1,395 yards. Scozzafava averages 38.8 yards per punt, and he has five kicks downed inside the 20-yardline.

Wilmington enters Saturday's contest sitting at 3-5 overall and 2-5 in the OAC. The Quakers average 295.9 yards per game, and they average 17.5 points per contest. Wilmington's defense gives up 418.6 yards per contest and 38.8 points per game. 

Wilmington's offense is led by quarterback Adam Dixon who averages 211.1 passing yards per game, and he's also tossed 15 touchdowns this season. Dixon has completed 131-of-265 (49.4%) of his passes this year, and he has 1,689 total yards through the air this year.

Wide receiver Lathan Jones leads Wilmington with 550 receiving yards on the year, while wideout Itika Wynn Jr. has five receiving touchdowns. On the ground, the Quakers are led by halfback Ben Hobbs with 345 rushing yards on 90 carries and one touchdown.

Wilmington's defense is led by linebacker Jarod Lee with 80 total tackles, six tackles for loss, and one interception.
