The Series

  • Saturday's contest will mark the 59th matchup between Muskingum and Ohio Northern. The first game was played in 1910, and the Polar Bears hold the edge in the all-time series 31-25-2.
  • In 1986, Ricardo Burks set the Muskingum program record for points scored by an individual with 32 against the Polar Bears.
  • Last season, Muskingum defeated Ohio Northern 33-31 in an electrifying game. Kicker Hunter Albers drilled a game-winning 23-yard field goal with 27 second on the clock to propel the Muskies to victory.

The Matchup

Muskingum enters the contest 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the OAC after most recently falling 35-21 against Baldwin Wallace last Saturday. The Muskies average 326.2 yards of total offense per game with 216.2 of those yards through the air and 110 on the ground. Muskingum averages 25.2 points per game, while their opponents average 30.2 points per contest.

Muskingum's offense is led by senior quarterback Jordan Garrett with 1,196 passing yards on the season. Garrett has completed 105-of-170 (61.8%) of his passes this season, and he also has 13 touchdowns through the air. Last week against Baldwin Wallace, Garrett completed a 90-yard touchdown pass to senior wideout Zuri Edmondson to set the program record for longest passing touchdown in program history. On the ground, Garrett has 90 yards on 46 attempts and one rushing touchdown as well.

Garrett's top target this season is senior receiver Zuri Edmondson. Edmondson has 34 receptions for 514 yards and six touchdowns, including the 90-yard touchdown reception last week that set the program record. Edmondson averages 15.1 yards per reception and 85.7 yards per game as well. Senior wideout Ja'Lin Goodman has 21 receptions this season for 257 yards and three touchdowns, while junior receiver Travis Roberson has 19 receptions for 206 yards and three touchdowns. Junior receiver Travanti Keitt has 14 receptions for 126 yards and one touchdown, and senior running back Donny Wilkinson has nine receptions for 113 yards and one touchdown.

On the ground, Muskingum is led by freshman running back Noah Wellmeier with 234 yards on 67 carries. Wellmeier has two rushing touchdowns this season, and he averages 3.5 yards-per-rush. Senior halfback Donny Wilkinson has 213 yards on 68 totes. Wilkinson has two rushing touchdowns as well, and he averages 3.1 yards per carry. 

On defense, the Muskies are led by sophomore linebacker Austin Willforth with 57 total tackles. Willforth averages 9.5 tackles per game, and he also has 4.5 tackles for a loss this year. Freshman linebacker Jeremiah Livingston has 41 tackles and one fumble recovery this season, while senior linebacker Tristan Howell has 40 tackles. Muskingum has three interceptions this year from three different players. Freshman defensive back Antwan Murphy, junior defensive back Devin Roebuck, and sophomore defensive back Cole Burch each have a pick; while freshman Onye Nwosisi has one forced fumble and freshman defensive back Nick Thomas has one fumble recovery.

On special teams, the Muskies are led by junior kicker Hunter Albers and freshman Aaron Meyers. Albers is currently 8-for-9 on extra points this year, and he's 1-for-1 on field goals with his make coming from 20 yards out. Meyers is 11-for-11 on extra points this year, and he's currently 1-for-3 on field goals with his make coming on a 36-yarder. Junior kicker Collin Scozzafava has 27 punts for 1,072 yards this year, averaging 39.7 yards per kick. Scozzafava's long this season was a 60-yard boot, and he has three punts placed inside the 20-yard line.

Ohio Northern enters Saturday's contest with a record of 1-5 overall and a 1-4 mark in the OAC. The Polar Bears most recently fell to 25th-ranked John Carroll 24-7 last Saturday. Ohio Northern averages 229.2 yards per game, with 133.5 through the air and 95.7 on the ground. The Polar Bears average 13.7 points per game, while their opponents average 28.3 points per contest.

Ohio Northern's offense is led by graduate senior quarterback Trevor McConnell with 510 passing yards this season. McConnell has completed 51-of-106 (48.1%) passes this year, and he's thrown four touchdowns. McConnell averages 127.5 passing yards per game, and he's also rushed for one score.

On the ground, the Polar Bears are led by graduate senior running back Brock Martin with 289 rushing yards on 102 carries. Martin averages 48.2 yards per game, and he tallies 2.8 yards per carry.

Ohio Northern's receiving corps is led by graduated senior wide out Austin Eick with 28 receptions for 311 yards. Eick averaged 51.8 yards per game, and he has one receiving touchdown this season.

On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore defensive back Dalton Tjong has 70 tackles to lead the Polar Bear defense. Tjong averages 11.7 tackles per game, and he also has one interception this season.
