Football travels to Baldwin Wallace for OAC battle

The Muskingum football team travels to Baldwin Wallace on Saturday, October 15, for an OAC battle. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. in Berea, Ohio.

The Series

  • The contest will mark the 65th meeting between Muskingum and Baldwin Wallace. The first game was played in 1916, and the Yellow Jackets lead the all-time series 48-14-2.
  • Muskingum's longest punt was recorded against Baldwin Wallace in 1994 when Bruce Lanning booted a 77-yard punt.

The Matchup

Muskingum enters the contest 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the OAC after most recently defeating Otterbein 41-35 in a double overtime thriller last Saturday. The Muskies average 314 yards of total offense per game with 192.2 of those through the air and 121.8 on the ground. The Muskies average 26 points per game, while their opponents average 29.2 points per contest.

Muskingum's offense is led by senior quarterback Jordan Garrett with 951 passing yards this season. Garrett has 11 passing touchdowns and one score on the ground. Garrett has completed 92-of-144 (63.9%) of his passes this year, and he averages 190.2 passing yards per contest. Last week, Garrett was named the OAC Offensive player of the Week for his stellar performance against the Cardinals. Garrett tallied 203 passing yards, five passing touchdowns, 55 rushing yards, and one rushing score for the Muskies. 

Garrett's top target this season is senior receiver Zuri Edmondson who's hauled in 28 receptions for 311 yards and four touchdowns. Edmondson averages 11.1 yards per reception and is making 5.6 catches per game. Along with Edmondson, senior wide out Ja'Lin Goodman has had a solid season for Muskingum's receiving corps. Goodman has 19 receptions on the season for 231 yards and three touchdowns. Goodman broke onto the scene last week against Otterbein when he tallied nine receptions for 108 yards and three touchdowns, which earned him Wally's Pizza Offensive Player of the Game accolades. Goodman averages 12.2 yards per catch, and hauls in 3.8 receptions per game. Junior receiver Travis Roberson has 17 catches this year for 177 yards and three touchdowns, while junior wide out Travanti Keitt has 13 receptions for 118 yards and one score.

On the ground, Muskingum's rushing attack is spearheaded by freshman Noah Wellmeier and senior Donny Wilkinson. Wellmeier has totaled 214 rushing yards on 64 carries this year, and he's also registered two touchdowns as well. Wilkinson has 199 rushing yards on 63 carries and two touchdowns for Muskingum this season.

Defensively, the Muskies are led by sophomore linebacker Austin Willforth with 46 total tackles and 4.5 tackles for a loss. Freshman linebacker Jeremiah Livingston has 33 tackles on the season and averages 6.6 tackles per game for Muskingum, while senior linebacker Tristan Howell has 30 tackles this year. Junior Devin Roebuck and sophomore Cole Burch have one interception each to lead Muskingum's secondary.

On special teams, Muskingum is led by junior kicker Hunter Albers and freshman kicker Aaron Meyers. Albers is 1-for-1 on field goal attempts this season, and he's also 8-for-9 on extra points. Myers is 1-for-3 on field goal attempts and he's currently a perfect 8-for-8 on extra points. Junior kicker Collin Scozzafava has 969 total yards on 24 punts this season. Scozzafava averages 40.4 yards per punt, and his long is 60 yards.

Baldwin Wallace enters Saturday's contest at 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the OAC. The Yellow Jackets most recently defeated Marietta 33-29 last Saturday. Baldwin Wallace averages 343 yards per game with 195.4 coming through the air and 147.6 on the ground. The Yellow Jackets average 23.2 points per game, while their opponents average 24.8 points per contest.

The Yellow Jacket offense is led by junior quarterback Joey Marousek with 845 passing yards and nine touchdowns on the season. Marousek has completed 57-of-113 (50.4%) of his passes this year, and he also has 36 rushing yards this season as well.

On the ground, Baldwin Wallace leans on senior running back Jon Murray Jr. to anchor their rushing attack. Murray Jr. has 466 rushing yards on 97 carries this season, and he's also tallied two touchdowns on the year.

Baldwin Wallace's receiving corps is led by senior wideout Darius Stokes with 17 receptions for 272 yards. Stokes has two receiving touchdowns and averages 16 yards per catch. Senior receiver Elijah Arnett also has 17 receptions on the season, and he's totaled 226 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.

Defensively, Baldwin Wallace is led by senior linebacker Mason Levasseur with 52 total tackles. Levasseur has seven tackles for a loss and he averages 10.4 tackles per game.
