How it Happened

  • With the game tied 28-28 at the end of regulation, Muskingum pieced together an eight-play, 25-yard drive in the first overtime that ended with Garrett scoring on a one-yard run to give the Muskies a 35-28 lead. The essential play on the scoring drive was a fourth-and-four play from the Otterbein 19 that resulted in a six-yard pass from Garrett to junior receiver Travanti Keitt good for a Muskie first down.
  • Otterbein answered the Muskie score with a four-yard touchdown pass on fourth down from Eason Hardouin to Damien Whaley to send the game to double overtime.
  • Otterbein's next drive stalled when senior defensive lineman Jamar Hicks and freshman defensive lineman Onye Nwosisi sacked Hardouin at the Muskie 18 to set up a fourth down for the Cardinals. The Cardinals missed back-to-back field goal attempts - after a Muskie offsides penalty - from 35 yards and 30 yards.
  • Muskingum used six plays to canvas 25 yards on its second possession in overtime, culminating in Garrett hitting Goodman for a one-yard score to propel the Muskies to the thrilling victory and send the Muskie players sprinting onto the field.
