Football travels to Otterbein in OAC play

The Muskingum football team travels to Ohio Athletic Conference foe Otterbein on Saturday, October 23. The Cardinal Hall of Fame game is scheduled to kick off at 2:00 p.m. in Memorial Stadium.

The Series

  • The contest will mark the 81st meeting between Muskingum and Otterbein, with the first game being played in 1905. 
  • Muskingum has set a pair of school records against Otterbein throughout their series. In 2001, Muskingum recorded a school record of 95 plays and, in 2017, passed for a school-record of 364 yards. 

The Matchup

The Muskies enter the contest at 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the OAC. Muskingum is averaging 323.3 yards and 26.8 points per game. The Muskies are allowing 370.3 yards and 24.5 points per contest.

Muskingum is led by captain quad of senior quarterback Jordan Garrett, senior defensive back Brian Brown, senior defensive back Cortez McGinnis, and senior offensive lineman Iggy Horvath.

Garrett leads the offense throwing for 1,202 yards and nine touchdowns on 97-of-180 passing attempts. He's also rushed for 143 yards and three scores. Junior running back Donny Wilkinson leads the rushing attack with 240 yards and three scores. Wilkinson has also hauled in 13 receptions for 77 yards.

Sophomore receiver Travis Roberson, junior receiver Ja'Lin Goodman and junior receiver Zuri Edmondson pace the Muskie receiving core. Roberson has 21 grabs for 205 yards and three scores. Goodman has hauled in 19 receptions for 333 yards and two touchdowns, while Edmondson has 19 grabs for 342 yards and one score. 

Sophomore tight end Gannon Unger also plays a pivotal role in the Muskie offense. Unger has rushed for 75 yards and caught 13 balls for 140 yards and two scores. He also has one passing touchdown. 

Junior linebacker Tristan Howell and freshman linebacker Azarious Williams lead the Muskie defense. Howell has registered 53 stops and has two interceptions, including one for a 38-yard touchdown. Williams has notched 50 hits and three tackles for loss. Senior defensive back Brian Brown has 44 tackles and is tied for sixth all-time at Muskingum in career interceptions with 14. In Brown's last game against Otterbein, he snared three interceptions which rank second all-time at Muskingum for interceptions in a game.

Sophomore kicker Hunter Albers and sophomore punter Collin Scozzafava lead the Muskie special teams. Albers is 3-of-5 in field goals (long of 36 yards) and has made 20-of-22 extra-point attempts. Scozzafava is averaging 39.3 yards per punt and has placed seven inside the 20. He connected on a career-best 70-yard punt against John Carroll earlier this season.

Otterbein enters the contest at 0-6 overall and 0-5 in the OAC. The Cardinals are averaging 350.5 yards and 13.5 points per outing. Otterbein is allowing 468.7 yards and 46.2 points per outing.

Senior quarterback Bryce Hall leads the Cardinals going 128-of-223 for 1,391 yards and six scores. Hall has also tossed nine interceptions.

Senior running back Sirej Muhammad leads the ground game with 371 yards. He's averaging 74.2 yards per outing.  

Senior tight end Jeb Jones has a team-best 28 receptions for 334 yards and two scores. Sophomore receiver Jalen Monney has 24 grabs for 315 yards and two touchdowns. 

Defensively, senior linebacker Greg Nolder has 50 stops with 2.5 tackles for loss and one interception. Senior defensive back Caleb Rice has added 34 hits.

Junior kicker Caleb Meade is 3-of-4 in field goals with a long of 34 yards. He's also 21-of-22 in point-after-attempts. He's also averaging 36.5 yards per punt with seven inside the 20.
