Football hosts Baldwin Wallace for Homecoming

The Muskingum football team hosts 25th-ranked Baldwin Wallace for its 99th Homecoming on Saturday, October 16, at Zanesville High School. The game is scheduled to kick off at 4:00 p.m.

The Series

  • The contest will mark the 64th meeting between Muskingum and Baldwin Wallace, with the first game being played in 1916. The Yellow Jackets lead the all-time series, 47-14-2.
  • Muskingum's longest punt was recorded against Baldwin Wallace in 1994 when Bruce Lanning booted a 77-yard punt. 

The Matchup

The Muskies enter the contest at 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the OAC. Muskingum is averaging 358 yards and 30.2 points per game. The Muskies are allowing 349.8 yards and 19.6 points per contest.

Muskingum is led by captain quad of senior quarterback Jordan Garrett, senior defensive back Brian Brown, senior defensive back Cortez McGinnis, and senior offensive lineman Iggy Horvath.

Garrett leads the offense throwing for 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns on 85-of-153 passing attempts. He's also rushed for 144 yards and three scores. Junior running back Donny Wilkinson leads the rushing attack with 217 yards and three scores. Wilkinson has also hauled in 12 receptions for 74 yards.

Junior receiver Zuri Edmondson, sophomore receiver Travis Roberson and junior receiver Ja'Lin Goodman pace the Muskie receiving core. Edmondson has 19 receptions for 342 yards and one touchdown, and Roberson has 18 grabs for 193 yards and three scores. Goodman has hauled in 15 receptions for 289 yards and one touchdown. 

Sophomore tight end Gannon Unger also plays a pivotal role in the Muskie offense. Unger has rushed for 69 yards and caught 11 balls for 132 yards and two scores. He also has one passing touchdown. 

Junior linebacker Tristan Howell and freshman linebacker Azarious Williams lead the Muskie defense. Howell has registered 40 stops and has two interceptions, including one for a 38-yard touchdown. Williams has notched 38 hits and 2.5 tackles for loss. Senior defensive back Brian Brown has 30 tackles and is tied for sixth all-time at Muskingum in career interceptions with 14.

Sophomore kicker Hunter Albers and sophomore punter Collin Scozzafava lead the Muskie special teams. Albers is 2-of-4 in field goals (long of 23 yards) and has made 19-of-21 extra-point attempts. Scozzafava is averaging 41.6 yards per punt and has placed seven inside the 20. He connected on a career-best 70-yard punt against John Carroll in Muskingum's last game.

Baldwin Wallace enters the contest at 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the OAC. The Yellow Jackets are averaging 345 yards and 32.8 points per outing. Baldwin Wallace is allowing 284.4 yards and 15 points per outing.

Junior quarterback Kegan Armitage leads the Yellow Jackets going 56-of-88 for 589 yards and three scores. Armitage has also registered three rushing touchdowns.

Senior running back Jon Murray Jr. leads the ground game averaging 109.2 yards per game with 10 touchdowns. Overall, the Yellow Jackets have rushed for 1,075 yards and 18 scores. 

Senior receiver Darius Stokes has a team-best 19 receptions for 272 yards and two scores.  Junior receiver Jake Novak has eight grabs for 121 yards. 

Defensively, senior linebacker Nick Pankow has 47 stops with five tackles for loss, including a pair of sacks. Junior linebacker Mason Levasseur has added 28 hits with 2.5 tackles for loss. 

Junior kicker Dean Sarris is 3-of-4 in field goals with a long of 35 yards. He's also 21-of-22 in point-after-attempts. Freshman punter Nick Cuppage is averaging 36.6 yards per punt and has placed 11 inside the 20.
