Football slips in annual Shriner Game at rival Marietta

The Muskingum football team dropped its Ohio Athletic Conference matchup at Marietta on Saturday night, 18-0.

Highlights
• Senior defensive back Brian Brown's first-quarter interception moved him into a tie for sixth all-time in career picks. Brown now has 14 interceptions on his career.
• Senior defensive end Sean Andor recorded an interception late in the fourth quarter and returned it 48 yards to the Marietta 9-yard line.

Notes
• The contest marked the 100th meeting between the two schools. Muskingum leads the all-time series, 52-46-2.
• The game was the annual Shriner Game between Muskingum and Marietta. Since its inception in 2009, Muskingum holds a 7-6 edge over the Pioneers.

How it Happened
• Marietta opened the scoring with a 5-play 78-yard drive capped off by a 47-yard touchdown pass to Dawson Snyder with 43 seconds left in the first quarter. Marietta's Matthew Haus would miss the PAT.
• However, that would be the only offense of the first half as neither team could find the scoreboard again before the break.
• After a muffed punt in the third quarter by the Muskies, Marietta's Connor Viestra connected with Clay Mastin for a seven-yard touchdown. Marietta's two-point conversion would fall incomplete. Marietta's short drive spanned two plays and nine yards.
• On the first play of the fourth quarter, Viestra connected with Maguire Morris for a 42-yard touchdown. The play capped a three-play 41-yard drive. Haus' extra-point was blocked.

Inside the Numbers
• The Muskie offense was led by senior quarterback Jordan Garrett with 138 passing yards.
• Freshman linebacker Azarious Williams led the Muskie defense with 10 tackles.
• Senior defensive back Cortez McGinnis also recorded eight stops.
• Junior Zuri Edmondson led the Muskie receiving core with six receptions and 93 yards.
• Sophomore punter Collin Scozzafava had two punts inside the 20 for Muskingum.
• Connor Viestra led Marietta's attack with 183 passing yards and three touchdowns.
• Bryce Agnew led the Pioneer running attack 129 yards on the ground.
• Muskingum ended the game with 185 yards of offense and 13 first downs. 
• Marietta churned out 320 yards of offense and 17 first downs.
• The Muskies were hurt by turnovers having three interceptions and losing two fumbles.
• The Muskie defense ended the night with a pair of interceptions.
• Marietta ended the outing with a 34:03-25:57 edge in time of possession.
