Garrett, Howell, Albers named OAC Players of the Week

The Ohio Athletic Conference has recognized three Muskingum football players for their outstanding performances in a 33-31 win over Ohio Northern on Saturday. Senior quarterback Jordan Garrett, junior linebacker Tristan Howell, and sophomore kicker Hunter Albers were all selected as OAC Players of the Week for offense, defense, and special teams respectively.

Garrett, a reigning All-OAC selection from the 2021 spring season, led the Muskie offense with 336 passing yards, 32 rushing yards, and three total touchdowns against Ohio Northern. Garrett has also amassed over 500 passing yards and six touchdowns in just two games this season, which has helped lead the program to its best start to a campaign in 10 years (2-0).

Howell, a centerpiece within the Muskie defense, recorded seven tackles and snagged a late-game interception that set up the game-winning drive for Muskingum. Howell's interception was the only turnover in the game and came with 3:45 left in the fourth quarter. Howell has appeared in all 15 games across his Muskie career and recorded 55 tackles.

Albers, a consistent force on Muskingum's special teams unit, sealed the Muskie win over the Polar bears on his 23-yard field goal with just 27 seconds left in the game. Albers has tallied a 2-2 mark on field-goal attempts this year, and he is 10-11 on extra-point attempts this season.

The Muskies will look to continue their hot start when they travel to Marietta on Saturday, September 18. Kick-off for the annual Shriner Game is slated for 7:00 p.m.
