John Carroll shuts down Muskingum in Homecoming game

Muskingum fell in its Homecoming contest against Ohio Athletic Conference foe and 21st-ranked John Carroll on Saturday afternoon in McConagha Stadium, 31-3.

Homecoming Recognition

  • Prior to the start of the game, Muskingum recognized the 2016 Homecoming Court - Matt Triola (King), Nicole Navicky (Queen), Freddy Stinson, Kole Smith, Miranda Bishop and Katie Shamel.
  • At halftime, Muskingum recognized the 2016 Muskingum Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees - Dani Keiffer Lamonica '01 (Softball), Carla Kampschmidt '01 (Softball), Rudy Visnich '56 (Football) and Larry Cole '77 (Special Category).  
  • At halftime, Muskingum also recognized Muskingum's 1966 Ohio Athletic Conference Football Championship team.

How It Happened

  • John Carroll grabbed the early momentum after Ro Golphin returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown.
  • The Blue Streaks added two more touchdowns to extend their lead to 21-0 early in the second quarter.
  • Muskingum senior kicker Cody Dent provided the Muskies with their lone points with a career-best 49-yard field goal at the 6:33 mark of the second quarter.
  • Golphin completed the first-half scoring with a one-yard score to cap off a 10-play, 75-yard drive to give John Carroll a 28-3 lead at the break.

  • Muskingum mustered 117 yards of offense and seven first downs on 51 plays. 
  • Senior quarterback Griffin Degener completed 9-of-21 passed for 71 yards.
  • Sophomore running back Warren Wilson led the receivers with six grabs for 60 yards.
  • Senior punter Samuel Green averaged 45.0 yards per punt on nine boots.
  • Junior linebacker Mick Fishel led the team with 14 tackles. He also forced one fumble.
  • Senior linebacker Chaney Fulton added 10 stops.

Inside The Blue Streak Numbers

  • John Carroll churned out 416 yards of offense and 20 first downs on 70 plays.
  • The Blue Streaks held a 40:27-19:33 advantage in time of possession.
  • Anthony Moeglin led the offense going 24-of-30 for 252 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Golphin rushed for 70 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries.
  • Luke Vadas led the receivers with 104 yards and one score on six grabs.
  • Jovon Dawson led the defense with five tackles, including three tackles for loss for 11 yards.
