Williams passes for career-high 329 yards in loss vs. BW

Muskingum senior quarterback Cody Williams threw for a career-high 329 yards to lead the Muskies to a season-best 449 yards of offense against Baldwin Wallace on Saturday in McConagha Stadium. In the end, BW escaped New Concord with a fourth-quarter comeback win, 34-28.

How It Happened

  • Muskingum sophomore receiver Damon Jones hauled in a 50-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Cody Williams late in the third quarter to give the Muskies a 21-20 lead after junior kicker Cody Dent's extra point. The score capped off a five-play, 76-yard drive. Williams ended the outing with a career-high 329 yards passing with three touchdowns. He completed 19-of-29. Williams also added 14 yards rushing for a career-high 343 yards of total offense.
  • Baldwin Wallace surged in the fourth quarter by scoring the next 14 points to take a 34-21 lead with 2:32 to play. The Yellow Jackets pieced together an eight-play, 66-yard drive and nine-play, 75-yard drive to seize the lead. 
  • The Muskie final score came on Williams' two-yard touchdown run with 49 second left to play. The tally completed a nine-play, 83-yard drive. Following the score, Muskingum's onside kick attempt was recovered by Baldwin Wallace.
  • The Yellow Jackets grabbed the early momentum by taking a 13-0 lead in the second quarter.
  • Muskingum scored the final 14 points of the half in the last 2:58 of the quarter to enter the break with a 14-13 edge. Williams hit freshman Darius Hayes-Carruth for a 68-yard touchdown pass and junior Melvin Smith hauled in a six-yard touchdown pass from Williams to complete the first-half scoring.
  • Muskingum ended with a season-best 449 yards of offense, which included a season-best 329 yards passing. It marked the second straight week the Muskies have churned out 400-plus yards of offense.
  • Hayes-Carruth led the Muskie receivers with a career-high 127 yards on six grabs with one touchdown.
  • Sophomore receiver Aron Sutton added four receptions for 75 yards, while Jones had four grabs for 74 yards and one score.
  • Smith led the Muskie ground game with 61 yards on 16 totes. Freshman Jordan Scanlon added 41 yards on nine carries.
  • Senior safety Cody Debo, junior linebacker Chaney Fulton and senior linebacker Zach Barry led the Muskingum defense with 10 stops each. 
  • Senior defensive lineman Barry Parks and sophomore linebacker Mick Fishel each added nine tackles. Parks also added 1.5 sacks for eight yards, while Fishel notched an interception.
  • Tyler Moeglin led the Yellow Jackets offense. He completed 18-of-27 passes for 215 yards, three scores and one interception. Moeglin also rushed for 80 yards and a score. BW ended the outing with 420 yards.
  • Issac Reed III had 79 yards rushing and one score.
  • Bryon Cook hauled in a team-best 123 yards and two scores.
  • Sam Groff paced the BW defense with 11 hits. Tyler Burdoff added nine tackles and Brock Hull had eight.
