Esports to host SOEL high school playoffs

The Muskingum esports team will host the Southeast Ohio Esports League (SOEL) high school finals this weekend.

The SOEL features Warren High School, Marietta High School, Shenandoah High School, Caldwell High School, Buckeye Trail High School, Morgan High School, and Cambridge High School. The teams will be competing across five games; League of Legends, Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, Overwatch, Fortnite, and Rocket League.

"We are ecstatic to host the Finals of the Southeast Ohio Esports League on campus this weekend," said Muskingum esports head coach Chris Bilski. "One of my goals, when I came to Muskingum, was to connect with our community, and this is a great opportunity to help cultivate and grow esports in local high schools. I am excited to watch the competitions and showcase our beautiful campus and esports facility!"

The Muskingum esports program has had remarkable success this season in The Arena. The Muskies have eclipsed a program-best 100 wins, registered a win against NCAA Division I Texas Christian (TCU), advanced to the Great Lakes Esports Conference playoffs in both Rocket League and Overwatch and placed 17th in Valorent in the National Association of Collegiate Esports. Furthermore, the Muskies have several student-athletes ranked in the top-10 in the nation in Madden, including the top-ranked player, and won the national CSP Invitational in Overwatch.
