Baseball stings Yellow Jackets in doubleheader

The Muskingum baseball team dominated Waynesburg over both games of their doubleheader. The Muskies took game one by a score of 13-1 and secured game two by a score of 10-3. Muskingum moved to 13-1 on the season with the wins today and highlighted the action with a season-high 22 hits in game one.

The Basics  

  • Records: Muskingum (13-1 overall), Oberlin (3-9 overall)  
  • Location: Mose Morehead Field – New Concord, Ohio

Notables 

  • The Muskies continue to move at a historic pace with their 13-1 record that is tied for the best start to a season since the 2007 campaign. 
  • The Muskies had a season-high for hits in a game with 22 in game one.
  • The baseball team had a lunch special, "Lunch & 3 Innings", at today's games.  

Game 1 

  • The Muskies scored 13 runs, had a season-high 22 hits, and added 11 RBI's. 
  • Freshman Lex Castaneda led the Muskies with four hits, one run scored, and one RBI. 
  • Junior Sam Palmieri had an impressive five RBI's, three hits, and two runs scored to pace the Muskie offense. Palmieri launched a triple and double in the contest.
  • Freshman Jasper Owens added three hits, three runs scored, one RBI. Owens was credited with two doubles in his contribution to the offense.
  • Senior Weston Melick had three hits, one run scored, and one RBI for the Muskies. 
  • Sophomore Grant Mellerson added two hits and one stolen base.  
  • Senior Tobie Teke and sophomore Benny Hess each had a stolen base.
  • Teke logged two hits and two runs scored.
  • Hess finished with one hit, one run scored, and one RBI.
  • Graduate student Erik Cover pitched eight innings of action for the Muskies. Cover earned the win on the mound for Muskingum, pitching eight innings and tallying six strikeouts. 
  • Senior Nathan Johnson came in to put the game away for Muskingum pitching one inning. Johnson struck out two batters. 

Game 2 

  • Muskingum finished with 10 runs, 14 hits, 10 RBI's, and nine strikeouts. 
  • Sophomore Conner Thamann led the Muskie with three hits, three runs scored, and two RBI's. Thamman was quick on the basesas he recorded a triple and double in the contest.
  • Mellerson added three hits and three RBI's. Mellerson had one double.
  • Sophomore Aiden Reis logged two hits, two runs scored, and one RBI.
  • Palmieri totaled two hits, one RBI, and one run scored. Palmieri finished with both hits being a double.
  • Owens, Teke, Melick, and sophomore Benny Hess each finished with one hit.
  • Owens added a triple in the action for the Muskies.
  • Sophomore Shoei Yamashita led the Muskies to a win on the mound, pitching seven innings and recording seven strikeouts. 
  • Sophomore Weston Hartman and sophomore Gavin Schultz each pitched an inning and had a strikeout each.
