Baseball claims 11th win in home opener against Oberlin

The Muskingum baseball team moved to 11-1 on the season after a 16-8 home opener win over Oberlin on Thursday evening.

The Basics 

  • Records: Muskingum (11-1 overall), Oberlin (2-8 overall) 
  • Location: Mose Morehead Field – New Concord, Oh. 
  • Attendance: 78

Notables  

  • The Muskies have tied the best pace through 12 games in a season with a 11-1 start since the 2007 campaign.
  • The Muskies recently received 13 votes in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 Poll.
  • The Muskies used a huge seven-run eighth inning to close out the contest.

Inside The Numbers 

  • The Muskies 16 runs on 13 hits with three errors. 
  • Senior Weston Melick led the Muskies as he fired off a home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Melick added to his impressive day with a total of three hits, four runs scored, and five RBI's. 
  • Sophomore Aiden Reis added to the Muskie offense as he tacked on three hits, one RBI, and one run scored.
  • Sophomore Conner Thamann logged three hits, three RBI's, and one run scored to pace the Muskie offense.
  • Freshman Jasper Owens logged one hit, one RBI, and recorded three runs scored.
  • Junior Jackson Duchesne pinch hit one time and recorded a hit in the at-bat that brought in two runs. Duchesne also made his way around and tallied a run scored himself.
  • Junior Mike Davis showed great poise in the batter's box as he recorded four walks in the contest. Davis added a run scored.
  • Junior Sam Palmieri tallied one hit, one RBI, and two runs scored. 
  • Sophomore Benny Hess logged a hit.
  • Senior Tobie Teke and junior Joey Eurez each tallied a run scored.
  • Owens recorded two stolen bases while Teke, Palmieri, Duchesne, Melick, and Reis each added one stolen base.
  • Freshman Coleman Harvey got the start for the Muskies on the mound and earned the win after going five innings with four strikeouts and no earned runs.
  • Freshman Lex Castaneda came in for relief for three innings and struck out four batters.
  • Sophomore Caleb Linton finished off the Muskies pitching with one inning of work.
