Baseball drops doubleheader at Mount Union

The Muskingum baseball team dropped their doubleheader against Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio on Friday. The Muskies fell in game one 11-3, and slipped in a close, hard fought game two by a score of 7-4.

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (19-19 overall, 7-11 OAC), Mount Union (26-13 overall, 10-8 OAC)
  • Location: Alliance, Ohio

Game 1

  • The Muskies scored three runs on 10 hits with one error.
  • Sophomore Sam Palmieri led Muskingum with two hits, two RBI's, and one run scored. Palmieri launched a home run in the top of the third inning over the right-center portion of the outfield fence.
  • Junior Weston Melick added in an impressive two hits, one RBI, and one run scored. Melick did most of his damage with a solo shot over left-center in the top of the sixth inning. 
  • Senior Wyatt Reeder knocked two hits with one run scored to help fuel a Muskie offensive that led early in the contest. Reeder had one double in the game.
  • Senior Ryan Schwartz, junior Travis Reynolds, junior Tobie Teke, and freshman Aiden Reis each had a hit. 
  • Sophomore Max Vosters got the start on the mound for the Muskies. He went 5.1 innings and recorded three strikeouts. 
  • Luke Ickes led the Purple Raiders with three hits, five RBI's, and two runs scored. 

Game 2

  • The Muskies scored four runs on seven hits with one error.
  • Teke fired two hits for the Muskie bats. Teke also found home plate one time. 
  • Palmieri finished with one hit, one RBI, and one run scored. Palmieri launched a double in the top of the eighth inning.
  • Schwartz added one hit and one RBI in th contest.
  • Reis, sophomore Louie Hess, and senior Peyton Carr each had a hit. 
  • Melick and sophomore Joey Eurez both scored a run.
  • Senior Erik Cover started things off on the mound for the Muskies and went five innings while only allowing four hits.
  • Andrew Witte led Mount Union with two hits, one RBI, and one run scored.

Up Next

  • Muskingum will be back in action on Sunday, May 5, when they will host Oberlin at Mose Morehead Field. The game is set to start at 2:00 p.m.
