Baseball propels past Asbury

The Muskingum baseball team used a huge third inning to propel past the Asbury Eagles. The Muskies followed up the huge inning by locking in defensively to close out the tight game, only giving up one run in the last five innings to secure the 8-6 victory.

Inside The Numbers

  • Muskingum rattled off eight runs on 10 hits while recording only one error.
  • Senior Ryan Schwartz fired off an impressive two hits and three RBI's to lead the Muskies. 
  • Sophomore Louie Hess batted out a two hit, one RBI performance. L. Hess was walked once and also found home plate twice in the contest. 
  • Freshman Aiden Reis added a two hit showing that allowed him to score twice as a result. 
  • Freshman Benny Hess logged one hit and two RBI's in his play. 
  • Freshman Conner Thamann had one hit, one RBI, and one run scored.
  • Junior Weston Melick and senior Wyatt Reeder both notched a hit in the contest. Reeder threw in a scored run, and Melick brought in one RBI.
  • L. Hess, Schwartz, and B. Hess all had a double. 
  • Earning the start on the mound was freshman Weston Hartman who went four innings for the Muskies. Hartman had four strikeouts in his work on the mound. 
  • Senior Jaxon Rinkes came in for relief as the next pitcher on the mound. Rinkes went three innings while only allowing one hit. 
  • Sophomore Jake Roshau and sophomore Nathan Johnson finished out the pitching work for the Muskies as they both handled an inning of work. 
  • Johnson earned the save with his play coming in the ninth inning and did so by striking out two of the final three batters for Asbury. This marked the third save for Johnson on the year.
  • Asbury was led by a combination of Cam Weaver, Andrew Billington, and Matthew Johnson. Weaver and Billington both had two hits, and Matthew Johnson added a homerun to the Eagles efforts.
  • Ryan Yates got the start for Asbury on the mound.

  • The Muskies will be back on the diamond tomorrow, May 1, when they will look to complete the sweep over Asbury. The game will take place at Mose Morehead Field and is set to start at 4:00 p.m.
