Baseball celebrates senior day

The Muskingum baseball team celebrated senior day with a split against Heidelberg. The Muskies dominated in game one in 14-2 fashion, and dropped game two in a high scoring 13-9 contest.

Notables

  • The 2024 Muskingum baseball seniors were honored before the game for their commitment to the program. 

Game 1

  • The Muskies scored 14 runs on 15 hits in a high octance offensive performance.
  • Junior Weston Melick logged a four hit, one RBI, and two runs scored to lead a potent offense.
  • Freshman Aiden Reis added in three hits, two RBI's, and two runs scored. 
  • Sophomore Sam Palmieri and freshman Grant Mellerson each knocked two hits. Mellerson added one RBI and one run scored. Palmieri threw in one RBI and two runs scored.
  • Senior Wyatt Reeder, senior Gavin Hawk, junior Tobie Teke, and freshman Conner Thamann each added one hit.
  • For extra base hits, Hawk logged a double, Palmieri a triple, and Reis added both a double and triple.
  • Mellerson and Reeder each had two stolen bases. Melick and Reis both snagged a stolen base as well.
  • Senior Erik Cover logged 8.2 innings of work on the mound for Muskingum. He recorded 10 strikeouts while only allowing five hits as he earned the win for the Muskies.
  • Senior Liam Carey came in to take care of the final Heidelberg batter and close out the game.
  • Aidan Corrigan led Heidelberg with two hits.

Game 2

  • Muskingum scored nine runs on 17 hits with five errors.
  • Palmieri, Thamann, and Reeder all had three hits to pace the Muskie bats in game two.
  • Senior Ryan Schwartz, Melick, and Teke each added in two hits. 
  • Reis and sophomore Mike Davis both added a hit to round out the Muskies. 
  • Teke led the Muskies in the RBI column with three.
  • Palmieri, Teke, Melick, and Thamann each had a double. 
  • Palmieri, Teke, and Schwartz all had a stolen base. Thamann and Reeder both had two stolen bases.
  • Freshman Shoei Yamashita got the start on the mound in game two. 
  • Adam McVicker and Theo Walsh led the Student Prince's with three hits a piece.

Up Next

  • Muskingum will be back in action on Thursday, April 25, when they host Bethany at Mose Morehead Field. The contest is set to start at 4:00 p.m.
