Baseball sweeps Wilmington in OAC opener

The Muskingum baseball team used a high powered offensive performance in game one and a dominant performance on the mound in game two, to sweep the Quakers in their OAC opener. The Muskies came away with final scores of 14-4 and 5-4.

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (11-7), Wilmington (2-14)
  • Location: Tewksbury-Delaney - Wilmington, Ohio

Game 1

  • Muskingum scored 14 runs on 18 hits and had two errors.
  • The Muskies were led by senior Gavin Hawk who tallied four hits, three RBI's, and scored twice. Hawk added in a stolen base to his impressive performance today.
  • Freshman Conner Thamann followed close behind with a hot three hit performance in the contest. He put together three RBI's and scored one run.
  • Senior Quinten Collins fired off two hits, both of which were heavy hitters. Collins knocked his first hit in the second inning, which was a solo shot over the left fielders head. Collins followed that up with a double in the third inning to add in two more RBI's for him in the contest.
  • Junior Tobie Teke put together an impressive stat line with two hits, two RBI's, one base on balls, and scoring three runs. Teke had the lone triple in the game for Muskingum.
  • Junior Weston Melick had two hits, one RBI, one base on balls, and scored three times.
  • Freshman Grant Mellerson tallied two hits, two RBI's, and scored once.
  • Senior Wyatt Reeder, senior Ryan Schwartz, and sophomore Sam Palmieri each had one hit in the game.
  • On the mound for the Muskies, senior Erik Cover pitched five innings to earn the win. Sophomore Jake Roshau completed the game with two innings of work.
  • Wilmington was led by Evan Kelsey and JP Donelan who each had two hits.

Game 2

  • Muskingum scored five runs on seven hits and had zero errors.
  • Collins continued his hot hitting day with two hits, one RBI, and one run scored. He added one double in this contest.
  • Palmieri put up a two hit performance, including one RBI and one run scored. He also tacked on two base on balls.
  • Mellerson added two hits with two RBI's. He also earned one walk in the game and accounted for a double.
  • Reeder had a hit to round out the Muskies in the second game.
  • The Muskies tallied six stolen bases in the contest.
  • Muskingum turned to freshman Shoei Yamashita to start on the mound in game two, where he went for six innings while striking out six batters.
  • Freshman Luke Spencer, sophomore Nathan Johnson, and freshman Gavin Schultz came in for relief work in this game.
  • Johnson earned the win after battling his way through seven batters from the bottom of the eighth til he walked the bases-loaded in the bottom of the ninth.
  • Schultz came in with the bases-loaded and two outs in the ninth as the Muskies looked for him to handle the last Wilmington out. He handled the pressure as he proceeded to strike out the Wilmington batter and earned the save for the Muskies.
