The Muskingum baseball team dropped their season-opener 10-6 at Washington & Jefferson on Saturday afternoon.

The Difference
- After Washington & Jefferson tallied one run in the third inning, Muskingum managed to tie the score at one apiece in the fifth off of an RBI groundout from sophomore Travis Reynolds.
- The Presidents used nine runs across the fifth and sixth innings to stretch their lead to 10-1, but Muskingum got on the board again in the seventh inning with three runs of their own. The inning was kickstarted by sophomore Weston Melick who scored on a passed ball. Sophomore Wyatt Reeder later scored off a fielding error, and Reynolds scored off an RBI-double from senior Dominic Gorence.
- Muskingum scored two more runs in the ninth inning off a two-RBI single from senior Jake Hymrod, but it was enough as Washington & Jefferson held on for the 10-6 victory.
Inside the Numbers
- Muskingum finished with six runs on eight hits and one error.
- The Muskies were led by senior Dominic Gorence who finished 2-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI. Gorence also tallied one run scored as well.
- Sophomore Weston Melick finished 2-for-3 on the day with two singles and two runs scored, while senior Jake Hymrod tallied a two-run pinch hit single for Muskingum to finish 1-for-1.
- Freshman Louie Hess tallied a 1-for-4 line in the leadoff spot for the Muskies. Hess also tallied a run scored in his first collegiate contest.
- Sophomore Wyatt Reeder ended the day 1-for-3 with one run scored and a walk, while sophomore Travis Reynolds notched a 1-for-4 line with an RBI and a run scored.
- Junior Jaxon Rinkes got the opening day start for Muskingum, Rinkes tossed four innings and gave up one earned run in his first outing of the season.
- Freshman Nathan Johnson, junior Erik Cover, junior Clark Jennings, junior Liam Carey, and freshman Jake Roshau all pitched in relief for the Muskies.
- Washington & Jefferson finished with 10 runs on nine hits and two errors.
- The Presidents were led by Jacob LaDuca who finished 2-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored.
- Tyler Horvat picked up the win for Muskingum after tossing five innings and giving up one earned run.

- Muskingum will be back in action on Saturday, February 25, when they take on Defiance in a neutral site doubleheader. The games will be played at Xavier University, with game one scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
