Thompson retires after 27-year tenure as Muskingum Head Baseball Coach

The Muskingum University Athletic Department has announced that Head Baseball Coach Gregg Thompson has retired from coaching after completing the 2022 season.

Thompson has been at the helm of the baseball program since 1993.  Over his 27-year tenure, Thompson has led the Muskie baseball team to the most career wins in program history (473), an OAC appearance, and several top 5 finishes.

Numerous student-athletes have achieved conference, regional, and national honors under Thompson's tutelage.  These honors have come both on and off the field.  Five of Thompson's players have been awarded the prestigious Clyde Lamb Award, which is given to the top senior student-athlete on campus. Thompson has also served as Chair of the OAC Baseball Coaches Committee.

"I have had the opportunity to do a job I loved for 27 years. Although I will miss the times spent with the players and building relationships, I am looking forward to this next phase in life,"  Thompson stated.

Director of Athletics Kari Winters stated, "We appreciate the time and energy that Coach Thompson has dedicated to Muskie Baseball over the last 27 years. He has had an opportunity to influence many Muskies who have joined the long magenta line. We wish him well in his future endeavors."
