Baseball earns 7-1 victory over Franciscan

Behind sophomore Jaxon Rinkes' solid five innings of work on the mound, the Muskingum baseball team earned a 7-1 victory over Franciscan on Tuesday afternoon.

The Basics

How it Happened

  • After neither team found the scoreboard in the first two innings, the Muskies plated two runs in the third. Sophomore Nate Keiser scored from third off a balk, while senior Chayce Lundell ripped an RBI double to center field to score junior Allex Santacroce.
  • Franciscan scored their lone run of the day in the fourth inning off an RBI single from Andrew Normandin. However, the Muskies would immediately answer in the bottom of the fourth off RBI singles from junior Devin Ryan and senior Trey Yoder to extend the Muskingum lead out to 4-1.
  • Muskingum added one run in the fifth inning off a sacrifice fly from sophomore Gavin Hawk, then plated another score in the seventh inning off a pinch hit single from sophomore Peyton Carr.
  • Santacroce singled through the right side to score Keiser in the eighth inning to give Muskingum their final run of the night. Sanatcroce's RBI pushed Muskingum's lead to the eventual final score of 7-1.

  • The Muskies were led by junior Devin Ryan who finished 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Senior Chayce Lundell went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored as well, while junior Allex Santacroce finished 1-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Junior Dominic Gorence finished 3-for-4 with a run scored on the day, while senior Trey Yoder batted 1-for-5 with an RBI.
  • Sophomore Peyton Carr finished 1-for-1 with an RBI single, while sophomore Gavin Hawk finished with an RBI.
  • Sophomore Jaxon Rinkes started on the mound for the Muskies. Rinkes pitched five innings, giving up one earned run off five Franciscan hits.
  • Sophomore Clark Jennings, freshman Brock Pfister, sophomore Liam Carey, and senior Drew Eaches all pitched one scoreless inning in relief for the Muskies on the mound as well.
