Baseball drops doubleheader against Baldwin Wallace

The Muskingum baseball team dropped game one of its doubleheader against Baldwin Wallace on Saturday, 6-2. In game two, the Muskies fell to the Yellow Jackets, 16-2.

Muskingum jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the third inning when senior Michael Pagano hit a sacrifice fly to center field, brining home senior Ben Van Wey.

The Yellow Jackets brought in a run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game 1-1.

In the top of the seventh inning, freshman Sam Pinckert blasted a sacrifice fly to center field, driving in freshman Chayce Lundell.

Baldwin Wallace took control in the bottom of the seventh inning by scoring four runs and taking a 5-2 lead. The Yellow Jackets went on to score a run in the bottom of the eighth en route to their first victory of the day against Muskingum.

Freshman Jake Norris took the loss for Muskingum on the mound. Norris pitched 5.0 innings and allowed one run on one hit while striking out one batter. Pitcher Spencer Aukerman earned the win for Baldwin Wallace. Aukerman pitched 7.0 innings and allowed two runs on six hits while notching four strikeouts. Jack Raines earned his third save at the mound for Baldwin Wallace. Raines pitched 2.0 innings and allowed no runs and no hits.  

Pagano led the Muskies with one hit and one RBI. Alex Ludwick guided the Yellow Jackets with one run on one hit and two RBIs.

Baldwin Wallace took a quick 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning.

The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 5-0 after the next two innings.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Baldwin Wallace scored seven runs to take a commanding 12-0 lead.

Over the next two innings, the Yellow Jackets stayed hot and scored four runs, increasing their advantage to 16-0.

Muskingum freshman Josh Cole tripled down the right field line in the top of the eighth, brining in two runs. However, Baldwin Wallace stayed in front through the rest of the game and managed to secure its eighth OAC victory.

Freshman Craig Nixon took the loss for Muskingum. Nixon pitched 3.0 innings and allowed eight runs on nine hits. Nick Smith secured the win for the Yellow Jackets. He allowed two runs on no hits in 6.0 innings of work. 

Cole led the Muskies at the plate with one hit and two RBIs. Kyle Pennington guided the Yellow Jackets with four runs on three hits and two RBIs. 

The Muskies next host Marietta on Tuesday, April 16. Game one of the slated Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
