Baseball pounds Hiram

The Muskingum baseball team pounded Hiram 20-4 on a cold day at the Mose Morehead Field on Saturday evening.

The Basics 

  • Records: Muskingum (6-5 overall), Hiram (2-10 overall)

Inside the Numbers

  • Muskingum scored 20 runs on 19 hits.
  • Junior Michael Pagano played outstanding as he went 4-for-4 at the plate, which included two doubles and a home run, tallied five runs scored, and two RBIs.
  • Freshman Ryan Hernandez went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Senior Brad Donathan went 2-for-3 at the dish, added two RBIs, and two runs scored.
  • Freshman Luke Currie and junior Ben Van Wey each went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Van Wey produced three runs scored and an RBI, and Currie notched two runs scored and two RBIs.
  • Senior Eddie Harper finished with a team-high four RBIs, notched two runs, and a triple.
  • Sophomore Josh Bigrigg registered a career-high nine strikeouts in 8.0 innings of work.   
  • Sophomore Ben Wiles appeared in one inning from the mound and collected two strikeouts.
  • Vince Suso, Zachary Bailey, and Will Howell each went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Terriers.
  • Vince Suso, Zachary Bailey, Curtis Caithaml, and Kyle Watson all scored a run for Hiram.
  • Pitcher Tyler Duben took the loss for Hiram after allowing seven hits and eight runs.

Game Highlights

  • Hiram started the top of the first inning with two runs to take the 2-0 lead.
  • Muskingum then dominated in the bottom of the first inning as they gathered eight runs to take the 8-2 advantage.
  • In the bottom of the second, Pagano blasted a two-run homer to extend the Muskies lead 10-2.
  • An RBI single from Donathan in the bottom of the fourth brought Pagano across the plate for the 11th run of the contest.  
  • The Muskies' accrued three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 14-4.
  • Muskingum busted out six more runs in the bottom of the seventh to grab its sixth win of the season.
