Baseball delivers Senior Day win on Mother's Day

The Muskingum baseball team delivered a Senior Day win on Mother's Day in its season finale against Ohio Athletic Conference rival Baldwin Wallace on Saturday at Mose Morehead Field, 8-7. The Yellow Jackets won the opener, 5-3.

Senior Salute

Game 2

  • Muskingum scored eight runs on 11 hits, with no errors to notch the season-ending victory.
  • The Muskies scored a run in the first, three in the third and three in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead.
  • Baldwin Wallace plated a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings to trim its deficit to 7-4.
  • Freshman Michael Pagano gave the Muskies a huge insurance run in the bottom of the eighth with his first career home run to right field.
  • Baldwin Wallace trimmed its gap to one in the ninth on Trent Kalenbach's three-run home run. The Yellow Jackets had the game-tying run at the plate when sophomore Jarin McIntosh struckout pinch hitter Matt Koskinen to end the game and secure the save.
  • Leitenberger led the Muskies at the plate going 2-for-3 with four RBIs. He belted a two-run double, one-run double and had a sacrifice fly.
  • Sophomore Eddie Harper hammered a two-run double as part of the Muskies' three-run fifth.
  • Junior Matt Lynn added a pair of hits.
  • Sophomore Kyle Schmitgen tossed six innings of six-hit ball and allowed two runs to earn his first win of the season. 
  • Kalenbach led the Yellow Jackets with three RBIs.

  • Baldwin Wallace scored seven runs on 12 hits.
  • Connor Murphy (0-4) took the loss after starting and going three innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits.

Game 1

  • Alex Albright (6-3) fired seven strong innings and allowed two unearned runs on six hits, and Tom Loeffler tossed the final two frames to notch the save to lead the Yellow Jackets to the win.
  • Spencer Badia led BW at the plate going 4-for-5 with one RBI and a run scored.
  • Cole Nieto, Mark Zimmerman and John Taylor all had two hits.
  • Baldwin Wallace led 5-1 after six innings and survived a late Muskie rally. Muskingum scored one in the seventh and one in the eighth and had the game-tying run at the plate in the ninth when the game ended.
  • Freshman Patrick McGinty (3-4) suffered the setback after going seven innings and allowing five runs (two earned) on 12 hits.
  • Freshman Ben Van Wey led the Muskies going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
  • Junior Austin DeVore logged an RBI.
  • Junior Joe Shumar and junior Dallas Allen each scored a run.
  • The game was delayed for several minutes in the bottom of the ninth when a bee swarm moved across the field.
