Muskingum and John Carroll team to strikeout ALS

Muskingum and John Carroll joined forces on Saturday in University Heights to Strikeout ALS. Both teams wore wristbands to help promote awareness and raise money for the Pete Frates #3 Fund, ALS research and other effected ALS members. 

The Muskies and Blue Streaks split the Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader. Muskingum won the opener in 11 innings 6-5 and John Carroll took the nightcap, 8-2.

Game 1

  • Freshman Patrick McGinty hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the 11th to score junior Dallas Allen to lift the Muskies to the extra-inning win.
  • John Carroll had the game-tying run on third base when the final out was recorded on a groundout to third.
  • Junior Brandon Bush earned the win in relief after firing five innings of four-hit ball. The win moved him to 3-1 overall.
  • Freshman Darien Smith started the game and went six innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits.
  • Junior Austin DeVore led the Muskies at the plate going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double.
  • McGinty and freshman Marc Ibarra each added an RBI.
  • Senior Christian Leitenberger went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a triple.
  • Allen also added a pair of hits.
  • Patrick Scholla led the Blue Streaks hitting two doubles. He had two RBIs and scored one run.
  • David Crowley added a 3-for-5 performance with one RBI and one run scored.
  • Mark Materise took the loss after allowing one run, on one hit, in two innings of work.
  • Aaron Lapaglia pitched nine innings and allowed five runs (two earned) on 10 hits.

Game 2

  • John Carroll scored eight runs on 10 hits.
  • The Blue Streaks used a two-run fourth and a three-run fifth to take a 5-0 lead and control of the game.
  • Tyler Gentile led the Blue Streaks going 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs.
  • Jacob Schriner also had two RBIs.
  • Freshman Ben Van Wey led the Muskies going 3-for-4 with an RBI double.
  • Junior Joe Shumar also added an RBI single.
  • Muskingum ended the game with two runs on five hits.
  • Freshman Evan Hinds suffered the loss after going seven innings and allowing eight runs (five earned) on 10 hits.
