Mount Union sweeps Muskingum

The Muskingum baseball team was swept at Ohio Athletic Conference foe Mount Union on Wednesday afternoon. The Purple Raiders won the opener 5-4 and took game two, 13-5.

Game 1

  • Mount Union scored two runs in the fourth and three runs in the sixth to turn back the Muskies.
  • Muskingum scored one run in the fifth and three in the seventh and had the game-tying run at third base when the final out was recorded.
  • Junior Austin Devore had a two-run single to lead the Muskies.
  • Junior Matt Lynn and senior Christian Leitenberger each added an RBI.
  • Freshman Patrick McGinty took the loss to drop to 3-2 on the season. He went 5.1 innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on 10 hits.
  • Noah Skladan notched the win after tossing six innings and allowing one run on four hits.
  • Sam Clarke registered his second save of the year after firing a scoreless ninth.
  • Billy Goodall led Mount with a two-run triple.

Game 2

  • Muskingum jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first.
  • Mount Union answered the Muskie charge with five runs in the bottom of the first.
  • The Purple Raiders took control with a seven-run fourth.
  • Mount Union scored 13 runs on 17 hits.
  • Leitenberger led the Muskies with two RBIs. He had an RBI single in the first and a solo home run in the second.
  • DeVore added two hits, including a double and sophomore Vayden Wood had an RBI.
  • McGinty and freshman Marc Ibarra also registered an RBI.
  • Kyle Gannon suffered the loss after allowing seven runs on 10 hits in 3.1 innings of work.
  • Darren Krolikowski grabbed the win in relief after firing 8.1 innings and allowing one run on four hits.
  • Tyler Simcox led Mount Union going 3-for-5 with five RBIs.
  • Conner Koski added three RBIs.
