The Muskingum baseball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference twinbill at Marietta on Saturday. The Pioneers won the opener 18-7 and took game two in a rain-shortened eight innings, 9-2.
The Basics

Game One
- Marietta scored 18 runs on 22 hits, which included seven doubles and two home runs.
- Junior Joe Shumar scored in the first inning on a Marietta error to give the Muskies a 1-0 lead.
- The Pioneers responded with two runs in the bottom of the first and nine runs in the bottom of the second to take control of the outing.
- The Muskies used a five-run sixth to trim their deficit to 12-7.
- Marietta answered the Muskie charge with four runs in the seventh and two runs in the eighth to complete the scoring.
- Freshman Darien Smith (1-1) was tagged with the loss after going 1.1 innings and allowing 11 runs (three earned) on 11 hits.
- The Muskies allowed 18 runs, but only 10 were earned due to six Muskingum errors.
- Junior Matt Lynn went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a double and one RBI.
- Senior Christian Leitenberger smacked a two-run triple and junior Joe Shumar had an RBI and two runs scored.
- Tim McCoy and Austin Harvey paced the Pioneers with each hitting a two-run home run.
- Greg Peffley added a 4-for-5 outing with two doubles and two RBIs.
- Christian Herstine (2-2) grabbed the win after going six innings and allowing seven runs (two earned) on nine hits, with five strikeouts.
Game Two
- Muskingum scored first on freshman Ben Van Wey's RBI single in the second inning.
- The Pioneers scored twice in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead.
- Sophomore Seth Casto tied the game in the fourth with his first career home run. He ended the game going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
- Marietta plated six runs in the bottom of the fourth. The surge was highlighted by McCoy's three-run home run.
- The Pioneers completed the scoring with a run in the fifth.
- The game was called after eight innings due to rain.
- Freshman Evan Hinds (4-1) took the loss after allowing eight runs (six earned) on nine hits.
- Van Wey and freshman Gavin Gray each added a pair of hits.
- Kordell Antill (2-0) notched the win in relief after going four innings and allowing just three hits.
- Peffley helped lead the Pioneers going 5-for-5 with with two RBIs, a triple and one run scored.
