The Muskingum baseball team opened play at Mose Morehead Field by dropping a doubleheader against Alma on Friday. The Scots won the opener, 7-2, and stunned the Muskies in 10 innings in the nightcap, 11-10.
The Basics

Game One
- Muskingum led 2-1 after the first inning. The Scots answered with six unanswered runs to end the game. Alma used a four-run sixth to take the lead for good at 6-2.
- Sophomore Vayden Wood led the Muskies at the plate with a two-run double.
- Junior Matt Lynn started the game and went 5.1 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits. The loss dropped Lynn to 0-2 on the season.
- Phil Jock tossed a complete game for the Scots. He allowed two unearned runs on six hits to move to 2-1.
- Adam Thoryk led the Scots going 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBIs.
- Muskingum stranded six runners on base and recorded one double play.
Game Two
- Alma scored five runs in the top of the ninth and added one in the top of the 10th to stun the Muskies.
- Muskingum entered the top of the ninth with a 10-5 lead. The Muskies ended the game with the bases loaded.
- Muskingum stranded 13 runners on base and tied its season-high for hits with 18.
- Junior Dallas Allen went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and one run.
- Junior Joe Shumar had a two-run double and senior Christian Leitenberger smacked a triple and had two RBIs.
- Freshman Marc Ibarra went 2-for-3 with two runs, a double and one RBI.
- Sophomore Eddie Harper went 2-for-5 with two runs.
- Freshman Darien Smith started the game and went 5.1 innings and allowed five runs on one hit, with six strikeouts. Smith held the Scots without a hit for 5.1 innings before giving up a single on a hard-hit ball up the middle that he deflected.
- Freshman Patrick McGinty (1-1) took the loss in relief. He pitched two innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits.
- Mike Mallory (1-0) garnered the win in relief after going 1.1 innings and allowing one hit.
- Eric Frontzak earned the save after getting the final two outs.
- Yoan De La Rosa and Doug Waters each had two RBIs.
- Patrick Finn went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
- The Scots ended the game with eight hits.
