The Muskingum baseball team lost a doubleheader against Otterbein on Saturday at Mose Morehead Field. The Cardinals won the opener 9-0 and outlasted the Muskies in game two in 13 innings, 12-10.
In the opener, Adam Collier started and fired eight innings of two-hit ball with five strikeouts to improve to 1-1. Terrell Dorsey pitched a perfect ninth to close the game.
Tyler Kent led the Cardinals at the plate hitting two home runs and Mark Walton added a home run too.
Freshman Vayden Wood and sophomore Matt Lynn each had a hit for the Muskies.
Sophomore Derrick Barker (1-2) started the game and went six innings and allowed seven runs (one earned) on hit hits.
In the nightcap, Otterbein (21-8, 9-5) scored a run in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 10-10 and Jake Simmerman hit a solo home run to lead off the 13th and Ty Compton added an RBI single to life the Cardinals to the extra-inning win.
Sophomore Austin DeVore and sophomore Dallas Allen each had three RBIs to lead the Muskies.
Junior Brett Robberts added three hits and a pair of doubles with one RBI and Wood had two RBIs to aid the Muskie 16-hit effort.
Freshman Kyle Schmitgen started the game and went 2.1 innings and allowed eight runs (five earned) on 10 hits. Junior Tyler Keith (0-2) was handed the loss in relief after tossing two innings and allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts.
Muskingum (10-22, 4-10) next plays at Bethany on Tuesday, April 21. Game time of the scheduled doubleheader is slated for 2:00 p.m.
