Baseball walks off for 11th-inning win

Senior Will Simpson worked a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 11th to lift the Muskingum baseball team to a 7-6 win in game two against Baldwin Wallace on Senior Day. The Yellow Jackets won the opener, 10-8.

With the split, Muskingum moves to 15-17 overall and 7-9 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Prior to the doubleheader Muskie seniors Michael Lynn, Matt Connor, Will Simpson, Zach Siemon and Alex VanDine were recognized.

In the nightcap, Simpson's walk scored freshman Logan Roberts to end the three-plus hour game. Roberts had singled earlier in the frame.

Muskingum had a 6-5 lead entering the ninth before Baldwin Wallace's Joe Hiller hit a sacrifice fly to score Kory Gillissie.

The see-saw game was tied at 2-2 after one inning. BW scored one in the second and added two in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead. Muskingum answered with a three-run fifth to knot the game at 5-5.

Muskingum plated a run on a Baldwin Wallace error in the sixth to take a 6-5 lead.

VanDine started the game and went 4.1 innings and allowed five runs on five hits with seven walks. Freshman Derrick Barker tossed the final 6.2 innings to net the win. Barker allowed one run on six hits with five strikeouts.

Sophomore Brett Robberts led the Muskies at the plate going 4-for-6 with one RBI and one run scored and Simpson went 3-for-6 with two runs.

Brandon Cichocki took the loss after pitching the final 2.1 innings and allowing one run on two hits. Jon Capadona started the game and went one inning and allowed two runs on four hits.

In the opener, Baldwin Wallace (20-14, 9-7) scored three runs in the top of the ninth to erase an 8-7 deficit to stun the Muskies.

Muskingum used a six-run seventh to take an 8-5 lead. However, BW answered with a two-run eighth to set the stage for the ninth-inning comeback.

Sophomore Austin Miller started the game and went six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. Tyler Keith was hit with the loss after allowing three runs on three hits in the ninth.

Robberts went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI and Michael Lynn and freshman Matt Lynn each added a pair of hits. Freshman Logan Roberts went 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored.

Capadona earned the win after tossing 2.1 innings of one-hit relief.

Hiller went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and one run and Kyle Chontos went 3-for-4 with one RBI and three runs.

Muskingum next hosts Ohio Wesleyan for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 30. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
