Baseball stays hot with ninth-inning rally

The Muskingum baseball team scored three runs in the top of the ninth to rally past Washington & Jefferson on Thursday, 6-5.

The win was the fourth in the last five games for the Muskies (14-16) who stayed hot at the plate scattering 15 hits on the day.

Washington & Jefferson (19-12) took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth on Cory Baurer's RBI double.

The Muskies responded with a three-run top of the ninth off of closer Kyle McClain to take a 6-4 lead. Sophomore Brett Robberts tied the game with a solo home run to left field with one out. The Muskies pushed two unearned runs across the plate to complete the three-run inning.

Washington & Jefferson scored once in the bottom of the ninth and had runners on first and third with two outs when sophomore Tyler Keith notched a strikeout to end the contest.

Robberts ended the outing going 3-for-5 with a home run and freshman Matt Lynn went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Sophomore Christian Leitenberger went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while seniors Matt Connor and Zach Siemon each logged two hits.

Sophomore Dylan Davy grabbed the win in relief after tossing 2/3 of an inning and allowing one hit. The save was Keith's second of the season.

Freshman Bryce Curry started the game and went five innings and allowed three runs on six hits.

Muskingum next hosts Ohio Athletic Conference rival Baldwin Wallace on Saturday, April 26. Game one of the scheduled doubleheader is slated for 1:00 p.m.
