Baseball drops DH at Heidelberg

The Muskingum baseball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Heidelberg on Monday. The Student Princes won the opener 7-3 and took the nightcap, 7-2.

In game one, Heidelberg (17-4, 3-1) used a two-run sixth and three-run seventh to break a 2-2 tie and take a 7-2 lead after seven innings.

Muskingum sophomore Austin Miller was handed the loss after going six innings and allowing six runs on five hits with three strikeouts.

Sophomore Brett Robberts belted the Muskies' first home run of the season to help pace the Muskie bats. Senior Will Simpson went 3-for-5 with a double, run and RBI, while freshman Logan Roberts, senior Zach Siemon and senior Matt Connor each logged a pair of hits.

Chris Thomas notched the win after tossing 6.1 innings and allowing two runs on nine hits with three strikeouts.

Arneal Squibb led the Student Princes going 3-for-4 with two runs. Derek Hug went 1-for-3 with a double, RBI and a run, while Alex Grove registered an RBI.

In the nightcap, Muskingum led 2-0 after four innings before Heidelberg scored seven unanswered runs to close out the contest.

Senior Alex VanDine allowed five runs (three earned) on nine hits in 6.2 innings to take the loss. He recorded six strikeouts.

Robberts went 2-for-5 with one RBI and senior Michael Lynn went 2-for-3 with a triple and run scored. Freshman Matt Lynn went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Derek Hendrixson got the win after firing 2.2 innings of two-hit relief with three strikeouts. Steve Huber started the outing and went 6.1 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.

Hug went 2-for-4 with a home run and triple, while Squibb went 4-for-5 with two runs, two RBIs, a double and a triple.

Muskingum (6-11, 1-3) returns to the field next at Marietta on Saturday, April 5. Game one of the scheduled doubleheader is slated for 1:00 p.m.
