Muskies split DH vs. Capital

The Muskingum baseball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference twinbill against Capital on Saturday at Mose Morehead Field. The Crusaders took the opener 9-4 and the Muskies grabbed the nightcap, 8-5. The doubleheader was the league opener for both teams.

In game one, Capital used a four-run first and three-run second to take a 7-0 lead and control of the outing. The Crusaders chased Muskie starter Bryce Curry after two innings. Curry allowed seven runs on eight hits to take the loss and slip to 1-2 overall.

Sophomore Brett Robberts had two RBIs and freshman Logan Roberts had one RBI. Freshman Joe Shumar logged two hits.

Justin Hoying earned the win for Capital (10-5, 1-1) after going six innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits.

Taylor Branisel went 4-for-5 with three runs and Ryan Pearson and Logan Bastian each had two RBIs.

In the nightcap, Muskingum rode the strong pitching of sophomore Austin Miller to the win. Miller went eight innings and allowed four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. Miller now stands at 2-1 on the year.

Dylan Davy recorded the final out in the ninth to notch the save.

Senior Zach Siemon led the Muskies at the plate going 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs and one RBI. Robberts went 3-for-4 and Shumar went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Roberts added an RBI triple.

Jeremy Finchum took the loss. He allowed five runs on nine hits in four innings of work.

Bastian went 2-for-4 with two runs and Andy Grillo and Person each added an RBI.

Muskingum (6-7, 1-1) hits the field next when it hosts Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday, March 26. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
