The Muskingum Athletic Department has named John Soppanish '20 Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Internal Operations.

In this role, Soppanish will oversee Muskingum's athletic facility management, campus recreation, athletic and recreation scheduling, work-study for campus recreation and athletics, and Muskingum's NCAA compliance.

"John has really impressed students and colleagues alike during his time serving Muskingum as a graduate assistant (to the position that he has stepped into) over the last two years," said Muskingum Director of Athletics Kari Winters. "His appreciation for this institution will serve him well in this role. John has a strong vision that will serve our campus rec programming and athletic department well."

Soppanish previously served as Muskingum's Assistant Director of Athletic Facilities and Recreation Operations. In that role, he helped coordinate the grand opening of the Henry D. Bullock Health & Wellness Complex (BHWC) and aided in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the BHWC. Soppanish assisted with scheduling all practices and events at the BHWC and the Steele Center and was responsible for hiring, scheduling, and training over 50 student workers with the campus recreation department. Additionally, he spearheaded efforts for all campus recreation staff to obtain CPR/AED/First Aid certification and conducted day-to-day operations for all intramural activities, including marketing, scheduling, and reviewing policies and rules.

Soppanish also serves as the Alumnus Advisor for the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He provides guidance, direction, and advice to the Executive Committee in the day-to-day chapter operations. Furthermore, he assists with philanthropic efforts related to Kappa Sigma's Military Heroes Campaign and oversees the undergraduate members of the Theta-Omicron Chapter of Kappa Sigma.

Soppanish graduated from Muskingum in 2020 with a B.A. in Athletics Communication and Sport Administration. He will graduate from Muskingum with a Master of Applied Leadership in May of 2024.
