Baseball drops doubleheader to Otterbein with game one ending in heartbreaking fashion

The Muskingum baseball team dropped a heartbreaking game against the Otterbein Cardinals in game one by the score of 5-3. The Muskies went to extra innings against the Cardinals and ended up falling on a home run in the bottom of the 11th inning. Game two found the Muskies slipping in a 10-3 contest. 

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (17-17 overall, 7-9 OAC), Otterbein (25-10 overall, 11-5 OAC)
  • Location: Fishbaugh Field - Westerville, Ohio

Game 1

  • The Muskies scored three runs on 10 hits with two errors.
  • Junior Tobie Teke and freshman Aiden Reis had dominant performances in game one. Teke had two hits, one RBI, and scored one run. Reis added in one hit, two RBI's, and scored one run as well. 
  • Sophomore Sam Palmieri notched two hits while covering second base and shifting to third base late in the game.
  • Senior Wyatt Reeder had two hits. 
  • Sophomore Louie Hess and junior Weston Melick each logged a hit. 
  • Freshman Grant Mellerson tallied one hit and a scored run. 
  • Palmieri had a double. 
  • Reis launched a home run in the first inning of action.
  • Palmieri and Teke both stole a base. 
  • Senior Erik Cover logged six innings of action in his start for the Muskies on the mound. He only gave up four hits in his time on the rubber.
  • Sophomore Max Vosters came in for relief and went four innings. 
  • Jamie Perebzak led the Cardinals with the home run in the 11th inning. 

Game 2

  • Muskingum scored three runs on nine hits with two errors.
  • Reis and Reeder both logged two hits to lead the Muskies in game two. Reis also scored a run. 
  • Teke had one hit, one RBI, and one run scored.
  • Senior Ryan Schwartz had one hit and one RBI.
  • Freshman Benny Hess threw in one hit and one run scored.
  • L. Hess and Melick both added a hit to round out the Muskies.
  • Reeder had two stolen bases. B. Hess also logged one stolen base.
  • Teke launched a home run over the right field fence in the eighth inning.
  • Sophomore Jake Roshau got the start on the mound in game two. 
  • Adam Folk had two hits and two RBI's while leading Otterbein.

Up Next

  • The Muskies will be back in action on Tuesday, April 30, when they host Asbury at Mose Morehead Field. The game is set to start at 4:00 p.m.
