Muskingum sweeps Otterbein on Senior Day to clinch a spot in the OAC Tournament

The Muskingum softball team swept Otterbein on senior day to clinch a spot in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon. In game one, the Muskies dismantled the Cardinals with an impressive 11-0 five inning game. In game two, Muskingum defeated Otterbein 3-0.

Notables

  • The 2024 Muskingum softball seniors were honored before the game for their commitment to the program. The seniors that were recognized were Kalie Eshelman, Rosie Hayes, and Madelyn Thomas.
  • Freshman Tareyn Born set her career high of strikeouts in a game with nine. Born also held Otterbein to one hit.

Game one

  • Senior Rosie Hayes led the Muskies with an incredible performance as she hit a grand slam over the right field fence. Hayes finished with four RBI's, a hit, and a run.
  • Freshman Taryn Mickley helped power the Muskies offense with three RBIs, two hits with one being a Triple, and a run.
  • Sophomore Cara Taylor energized the Muskies as she went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, a run, and a stolen base.
  • Freshman Kenzie Standerfer finished 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a run.
  • Freshman Natalie Smith fueled the offense as she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs.
  • Sophomore Sadie Smith was a perfect 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI, and a run.
  • Senior Kalie Eshelman recorded one hit, an RBI, and a run.
  • Freshman Elizabeth Wauford and freshman Aimee Heasley each finished with a hit and a run.
  • Pitching for the Muskies was senior Madelyn Thomas. Thomas pitched all five innings and totaled five strikeouts and only allowed two hits.

  • The Muskies finished with three runs, 10 hits, three RBIs, two stolen bases, and were walked two times.
  • Sophomore Sadie Smith led the Muskies as she went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, and an RBI.
  • Freshman Bethany Rodman energized the Muskies as she finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
  • Senior Kalie Eshelman helped aid the Muskies with two hits with a double and a run. Eshelman also had a stolen base.
  • Sophomore Susie Blocher finished a perfect 2-for-2.
  • Senior Rosie Hayes and freshman Taryn Mickley each posted a hit. Mickley added a stolen base.
  • Freshman Tareyn Born started in the pitching circle for the Muskies. Born achieved her career high of strikeouts in a game with nine. She also held Otterbein to one hit.
