Women’s Soccer slips in OAC opener against Heidelberg

The Muskingum women's soccer team slipped in their Ohio Athletic Conference opening match against Heidelberg, on Saturday afternoon, 3-0. The game marked both teams' first OAC contest. 

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (2-5-3 overall, 0-1 OAC), Heidelberg (5-2-2 overall, 1-0 OAC)
  • Location: Hidden Valley Soccer Complex

How It Happened

  • Heidelberg jumped out to a, 1-0 lead at the 12:58 mark off a Caitlyn Cross strike.
  • Caitlyn Cross struck again for the Student Princes this time at the 37:07 mark to make it 2-0 Heidelberg at the break. 
  • Heidelberg used a second-half goal to secure a 3-0 home victory.

Inside the Numbers

  • Sophomore Morgan Meisel, sophomore Madison Yenke, and freshman Marysa Starcher led the Muskie attack with three shots apiece.
  • Senior Bekah Knight, senior Skyllar Strong, and freshman Hannah Ritchie, rounded out the Muskie offensive effort with one shot each.
  • Junior Kelly Buck snagged eight saves in 90 minutes of work for the Muskies.
  • Caitlin Cross led the Student Prince offense with two goals. 
  • Heidelberg goalkeeper Meredith Bruce secured eight saves in 90 minutes of work.
